The slogan of Verizza in Hoboken is “Porta La Pizza” (which means “Delivers The Pizza”). This is because the owners strongly believe pizza should be just as good even when you order delivery. Likewise, the name itself combines “Vera” (real/authentic) and “pizza” to make Verizza.
The nearly 1,000-square foot space seats 20 guests at full capacity, with seasonal outdoor seating as well. Those lucky enough to be familiar with pizzerias in Italy will recognize the design; the owners worked with top European designers to ensure Verizza captures the essence of modern Italian design. “The decor is contemporary Italian,” adds Managing Partner Stefano Flavoni. “We purposely wanted a more modern design as opposed to a traditional, nostalgic look a lot of Italian pizzerias opt for.”

A Taste of Italy
Verizza serves contemporary Italian cuisine, blending Neapolitan-based pizza with a crunchier Roman style. In fact, the owners have their own recipe for pizza dough which uses multiple flours to add texture and depth. They also let the dough rise slowly over 24-plus hours, producing a product that’s fluffy yet crispy.
For pizza purists, Flavoni strongly recommends the Diavola (tomato sauce, mozzarella, salame piccante, basil). “It’s a simple pizza, but the quality of the ingredients really shines through,” he says. But for those looking for something more creative, signature pies include the Parmense, the Mortazza, and the Salentina. Of course, you can find the full menu with topping descriptions online.
As you’ll notice on the menu, the team also puts an emphasis on creative, unique pizza toppings. “One of our pizzas—the Tartufata—has potatoes, truffle, and smoked Italian ham,” says Flavoni. “This is certainly outside the box!”
About the Owners
Verizza was founded by three college friends (all Italian) who love pizza. Each starting out in the corporate world, the first quit their job to follow his passion for food. After he set up an award-winning pizzeria in another country on his own, the trio realized something; a strong demand for genuine Italian pizza outside of Italy. At Verizza, they want everyone to be able to enjoy a quality artisan pie at home at an affordable price.
