The Best New Jersey Food Trucks: Chank’s Grab-N-Go

In this edition of The Best New Jersey Food Trucks, we meet a family reinventing the world’s favorite food. Chank’s USA LLC is headquartered in Millville, Cumberland County, and they put your favorite foods in a cone. The signature item is, of course, their now famous pizza in a cone. But that’s just the start for their new Chank’s Grab-N-Go snack division.

The founder and CEO of Chank’s Grab-N-Go is Eric Ciancaglini. Though he and his team create their products right here in the US, their inspiration comes from Italy. Eric’s father came up with the concept, then his son took the idea and ran with it. Now they offer several items in cones, and the menu is only getting bigger. You can buy online, find them near you, or get some fresh off the Chank’s food truck.

The traditional pizza cone is a signature marinara sauce and mozzarella mix they wrap in hearty pizza crust. They also offer a pepperoni option. In addition to the pizza cones, patrons can order a cheesesteak in a cone. In the future, Chank’s plans to offer desserts as well.

A New Way to Have Pizza Anytime

You can often catch the truck at festivals and events; however, the cones are such a hit you can now order them at some sports stadiums and supermarkets. As for what makes the cones so popular, it’s both their convenience and balance of flavor. Plenty of people out there love pizza but don’t eat the crust, right? With Chank’s Grab-N-Go snacks, every bite is equally full of both cone and filling.

Best of NJ: What year did the Chank’s truck start up?

Eric Ciancaglini: Chank’s started in January of 2019.

BONJ: What was it like for you starting out with the truck?

Eric: Starting out is just like riding a bike. We didn’t know anything about the food truck industry; but with some homework and trial and error you live and learn. We had a successful food truck season last year. Made some great relationships with event organizers, and we exceeded our expectations.

We recently decided to take on the CPG (consumer packed goods) “ready snack meals” industry and feel our product is the perfect social snack for parties, tailgates, family get-togethers, etc. We just recently launched our ecommerce platform in the last six months, and it has been going great! [The Chank’s website sells] four flavors pre-made, frozen, in six packs. We ship them directly to you, and you cook them in your home oven!

BONJ: What can customers expect when they order one of your handheld snacks?

Eric: You can expect an explosion of flavor with all of our cones. We’ve always said, you know when you eat a slice of pizza and with the first bite you get that perfect amount of cheese, sauce, and dough combination? Then usually when you get to the end, it’s all crust and no sauce or cheese. With our cones, you never have to worry about that. You always get that perfect bite every time!

BONJ: What are the different types of food people can get in a cone now?

Eric: For our frozen, pre-filled cones, we offer cheese pizza, pepperoni pizza, Philly cheesesteak, and Truffalo Chicken. (Buffalo chicken with truffle hot sauce.) Customers can buy each flavor in a six pack from our website, or soon in your local grocery store. We plan on releasing our Famous Crab Cake Cone soon and also a bacon, egg, and cheese cone.

We also have options we do just exclusively for catering; that includes chicken parm, BBQ pulled pork, chicken fajita, Caesar salad, and more.

BONJ: What can you tell us about the sweet items you’ll be serving soon?

Eric: These are still in the making. On our truck and for catering, we sometimes offer dessert cones, which include a Nutella cone and a cannoli cone. We plan to bring these to our ecommerce platform and sell them as frozen treats.

BONJ: What types of events does Chank’s cater?

Eric: We cater all types of events from small birthday parties to big corporate events. We’ve recently done catering for American Airlines. We offer a “classic” option and an “all-you-can-eat” option.

BONJ: Where can guests find your truck this summer?

Eric: Normally you would be able to find it all throughout the NJ and Philadelphia area; but unfortunately because of COVID-19 this entire season has been suspended or at least delayed until the fall.

BONJ: Where else can customers find your food?

Eric: You can order directly off our website or even Amazon as well!
