#1 in Princeton – Local Greek

Photo of Stratos Karampasis, Owner of Local Greek in Princeton

Where: 44 Leigh Ave
Details: Head Chef and Owner Stratos Karampasis is something of a local legend for bringing his authentic Greek culture and cuisine to Princeton. That includes mouthwatering menu highlights such as Grilled Branzino, Village Stuffed Chicken, and the massive Greek Paella for 4. The latter dish includes a variety of shrimp, mussels, calamari, octopus, chicken, greek sausage, greek herbs, olive oil, and pita. In addition, their authentically-prepared, house recipe moussaka and grill mix platters are signature dishes not to be missed. Local Greek is also an early day favorite for breakfast and weekend brunch. Their morning menu features popular picks like The Greek Parfait, Local Gyro Omelette, Lamb Burger, and Greek Style Pancakes. (Topped with crushed walnuts and maple syrup.) Just be sure to save room for dessert, as they serve authentic Greek sweets that are hard to find elsewhere. We’re talking fresh Galaktoboureko, Bougatsa, Portokalopita, Ekmek Kataifi, and Baklava.

#2 in Princeton – The Meeting House

Where: 277 Witherspoon St
Details: The Meeting House describes their American dishes as “simple,” but the flavors are anything but. Popular starters include their buttermilk biscuits, house hummus, and crispy Rhode Island Calamari. As for entrees, we recommend either the Atlantic Salmon or Fried Chicken with apple coleslaw and chili honey. Their menu is thoughtfully paired with a selection of new- and old-world wines as well as locally-brewed beers. Aside from dinner Tuesday through Sunday, The Meeting House is open for lunch and weekend brunch.

#3 in Princeton – Mediterra Restaurant & Taverna

Where: 29 Hulfish St
Details: As the name implies, Mediterra is the go-to restaurant in Princeton for Mediterranean cuisine. It is part of the Palmer Square shopping center. The menu is inspired by the dozens of cultures surrounding the Mediterranean, but heavily emphasizes Italian and Spanish flavors. This results in unique dishes like House Made Tagliatelle with Colorade lamb ragu, Pastaless Lasagna, and Confit duck leg. Drink options include wines, draft beer, and sangria pitchers. Besides daily dinner, Mediterra is also open for lunch as well as Sunday brunch.

#4 in Princeton – Agricola

Where: 11 Witherspoon St
Details: Agricola is known for innovative farm-to-table fare that focuses heavily on healthy veggies and gluten-free dishes. The family-owned spot takes pride in the high-quality food they serve seven days a week. Agricola is open for lunch and dinner daily, as well as weekend brunch on Saturday and Sunday. Popular menu items include bang bang cauliflower, jerk shrimp tacos, local mushroom flatbread, and glazed prime short rib. We also recommend some roasted fingerling potatoes and Broccolini Caesar to share.

#5 in Princeton – Witherspoon Grill

Witherspoon Grill Burger

Where: 57 Witherspoon St
Details: Downtown Princeton is home to a number of top-notch restaurants. But locals always seem to find their way back to Witherspoon Grill. Perhaps it’s because of their blend of handcrafted drinks, elevated American cuisine, and refined but still welcoming atmosphere. The versatile space is perfect for any occasion, from formal corporate dinners to fun family gatherings, to weekly date nights. Their private dining room even has a projector and screen, and can accommodate up to 25 guests. Chef Alejandro de Casenave leaves his unique mark on every dish, blending familiar yet refreshing flavors into every bite. In particular, guests rave about his specialty pasta dishes like Smoked Mozzarella Ravioli and Jumbo Shrimp Rigatoni. Of course, they have a selection of curated cocktails on hand to pair with every plate. Popular picks include the Pancho Margarita, Sparkling Pineapple Cosmo, and Strawberry Bee’s Knees. The latter mixes Bar Hill gin, fresh strawberry purée, fresh lemon juice, and honey.
