Fine Dining Restaurants

Scallops entree from Apero Steakhouse

Where: 200 Port Au Peck Ave, Oceanport
Details: Apero Steakhouse is a place to slow down and unwind. Their cuisine utilizes classic French techniques to prepare time-honored favorites. This includes their classically-prepared French Onion soup, as well as small plates. (We recommend the Escargot De Bourgogne and Seared Fois Gras.) Standout entrees range from Dry Aged Rohan Duck Breast and Scallop Au Gratin to Brioche Crusted Halibut. When it comes to their chops, all prime steak frites are served with pomme frites and mustard aioli. Recommended cuts include the 8oz Filet Mignon, 14oz NY Strip, and 38oz Porterhouse. Meanwhile, Apero serves cocktail favorites like the Manhattan, Old Fashioned, Dirty Martini, and Daiquiris. Their elevated homemade dessert showcases their Chocolate Tower, Apple Galette, and custom to-go Chocolate Boxes. (The latter supports the Liv Like a Unicorn Foundation.) The 130 Club Menu Sample

Where: 130 County Rd, Tenafly
Details: The 130 Club is an upscale steakhouse serving premium cuts of meat and seafood along with signature cocktails and sides. But that’s only half the experience, as the property also houses The 130 Social, a private and luxurious members only cigar club with full bar, lounge, and dining room. Both concepts come from the culinary visionaries behind the extremely popular 4Charles Prime Rib NYC. This includes Founder and Executive Chef Geoff Taylor. (Known for developing signature menu items such as the prime rib French dip and caviar-topped deviled eggs.) In short, The 130 Club offers an intimate, supper-club-style restaurant built around elevated comfort dishes and inventive cocktails. Premium quality entrees include Wagyu NY Strip Steak, Boneless filet Mignon, Dry-Aged Ribeye, Colorado Lamb Chops. But the marquee — and simply must-try — menu item is their Ten Hour Slow Roasted Prime Rib.

Fan favorite seafood menu standouts like grilled baby Spanish octopus and giant Alaskan king crab legs offer flavorful, elevated cuisine. The best way to end a meal is with their Nutella Affogato or Torta al Limoncello desserts. A couple notes about reservations and party sizes that are important to know: During the summer and on weekends, the restaurant’s maximum party size is 12. They also recommend making a reservation for groups of 5 to 12 at least 2-3 weeks in advance.

They also recently added a weekend brunch menu.

Sam’s Table

Where: Montclair
Details: Visiting Sam’s Table feels more like dinner at a friend’s house than a fancy restaurant. The restaurant, led by Executive Chef Sam Stymest, serves an a la carte menu alongside a tasting menu. Chef Sam’s dishes emphasize sourcing ingredients from local farmers, foragers and fishermen. Both the a la carte menu and 5-course tasting menu change monthly based on what’s in season. The experience is best described as modern American cuisine with a vegetable-forward flair in an intimate yet refined atmosphere.

The Saint Clair

Where: Montclair
Details: The Saint Clair offers a sustainable, seasonally-focused menu that includes lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. While many of the core ingredients remain the same throughout the year, the garnishes always change to match the season. Their homemade cast iron cornbread is already a big hit, as is the halibut. But in truth, everything is made with care and worth a try. While they don’t have a pastry chef, The Saint Clair makes two desserts in house.
