There’s a new spot in Plainsboro Township that’s perfect for relaxing, working, or chatting with friends. Shuu Cafe offers Asian-inspired desserts, bubble waffles, and fun drinks that pair well with the eatery’s “chill” vibe. This includes soft serve ice cream in a variety of exotic flavors.
The 2,000-square-foot space aims to be family oriented. In fact, the goal is for Shuu Cafe “to be a place families and friends can enjoy dessert and hangout”. The cafe also boasts a relaxing atmosphere that attracts many guests to come and study or work. “We enjoy seeing people feel comfortable enough to come and enjoy a drink while drawing or even knitting,” says Co-owner Mandi Leong.

Drinks, Desserts, & More
Desserts have Asian-inspired flavors like black sesame, matcha, and taro. “We tell customers that our desserts aren’t too sweet and have just the right amount of sweetness,” Mandi says. For instance, Mandi loves their Black Sesame soft serve ice cream, which uses real black sesame. The ice cream has a roasted, nutty flavor.
Bubble waffles are also popular at Shuu Cafe. “They’re a great option to try if it’s your first time at the café,” Mandi says. She explains that bubble waffles are a little chewier in texture than a regular waffle, and not too sweet. “They’re delicious and addicting on their own, but you can’t go wrong with ice cream on top,” she adds.
Another popular item is their cream puffs. “A lot of people get one to try and end up coming back for more,” Mandi says. These puffs have a delicate shell with a crunchy cookie-like topping and light, creamy filling. She loves their strawberry cream puff in particular.

If Mandi isn’t in the mood for dessert, she usually opts for one of their sparkling ade drinks. These are carbonated, fruit-based drinks. Her favorite is the grapefruit ade.
About the Cafe
Shuu Cafe boasts soft yellow lighting and natural wood features, as well as plants throughout the interior. They play all sorts of music – jazz, pop, indie, K-pop – to set the mood. They can seat 32 to 35 guests inside, and plan to offer outdoor sidewalk seating by Summer 2024.
