The tagline at Maggie Moose Bakery & Gourmet Gift Boutique in Medford is “Caution: Highly Addictive”. But the shop offers much more than just desserts. Doubling as a gift boutique, owner Candy Vargas-Thibeau also sells a variety of premium oils and vinegars.
The main bakery and gift boutique is about 2,500 square feet. However, Candy recently purchased some additional space to nearly double the size of Maggie Moose Bakery. Growing up in town, opening in Medford was an easy choice. However, this isn’t the first Maggie Moose Candy has operated.

The Story Behind The Business
The original Maggie Moose location opened in Canada. In fact, it became world-renowned for their selection of fudge. “When I moved back home, everyone kept asking me to put one down here,” Candy says. “Knowing the amount of work it would be, I laughed it off,” she admits. But after seeing so many businesses close as a result of COVID, re-opening Maggie Moose Bakery was an opportunity. As a firm believer in the American Dream, Candy wants her business to be an inspiration; to serve as proof that not all businesses fail during trying times.
In fact, Candy has no professional baking training. “I’m just a girl with a vision who loves to bake,” she says. “But that’s the thing. All it takes is a dream and a vision and a desire to learn. Then you can literally do anything you want to and make a living at it. That’s the American Dream!”

As for the bakery itself, Candy says “The vibe is fun”. In particular, it’s full of hot pink and lime green colors with black and accents of white. “It’s casual and makes people smile as soon as they walk in.”
Of course, Maggie Moose Bakery specializes in baked treats. “It’s nothing too out of the ordinary, but unique in how I make it,” Candy explains. She says customers gravitate to their donuts. “They are huge and have fun names and are so yummy.”
Meanwhile, the bakery imports gelato from Italy. They also offer a large selection of biscotti, in addition to cakes, cupcakes, pies and more. The gourmet gift boutique section of Maggie Moose Bakery offers over 60 premium oils and vinegars on tap.
Future plans include an expanded selection of gluten-free items, all made from scratch and ketogenic.
