Fazzio’s Pasta Company Brings Farm-to-Table to Salem

At the moment, there’s only one farm-to-table pasta company in all of Salem County. Fazzio’s Pasta Company is a new restaurant in Salem serving fresh pasta and sauce made in house. In particular, Co-owner Matthew Fazzio makes handmade pasta, ravioli, gnocchi, and other authentic Sicilian dishes for both lunch and dinner.

The 1,400-square foot Fazzio’s Pasta Company can seat 60 diners. “The black tables and lighting really make the space pop and seem larger,” says co-owner Alyssa Tanner. The lunch atmosphere is laid back, however, tablecloths and candles adorn the tables come dinner time. “With the lights in the plaza and the large windows, it really gives off a romantic, warm glow,” Tanner explains. “Not to mention the music. It feels like a Sunday Italian dinner with family.”

Favorites at Fazzio’s Pasta Company include the Sicilian orange salad, a hit with the vegan crowd. Meanwhile, they make their cheese ravioli with seven different cheeses and a scoop of their house-made tomato basil gravy. They also serve Bolognese sauce made to order with Sickler’s Circle View Farm beef and pork. “We use meat and produce from local farms as much as we can in our dishes,” Tanner says. Likewise, they also carry wine from Bellview Winery, a local winery.

The dessert menu features Italian baked goods such as Sicilian donuts, biscotti, and Italian wedding cookies. But Tanner raves about the cannoli crepes that Fazzio makes. “He takes crepes and fills them with chocolate chip cannoli filling; then wraps them like manicotti and drizzles chocolate syrup and powdered sugar,” she says. “It is amazing!”

Fazzio’s Pasta Company has options for kids as well, including a macaroni and cheese bowl with fresh pasta; in addition to cheese and meat ravioli, or spaghetti with handmade meatballs. Vegan and vegetarian eaters can enjoy soups like the Jersey tomato basil and Italian wedding with vegan meatballs; as well as the Sicilian orange salad and their house-made vegan meatball sandwich. “He makes his meatballs with a mixture of Beyond meat and Beyond sausage,” Tanner explains. Plans for gluten-free fresh pasta and vegan meat ravioli are also in the works.

Prior to opening Fazzio’s Pasta Company, the pair were working out of a community kitchen. But when a customer told them about a space available for rent, they seized the opportunity. Now, they have the support of friends and family, in addition to the Salem City community.
