Cocina Cecilia Brings Peruvian Cuisine to Hawthorne

Though many food trucks travel throughout the state, this is not always the case. Take Cocina Cecilia, for instance, a family-owned Peruvian food truck serving both traditional and creative Peruvian-inspired dishes. Rather than roam around, their truck can always be found at Goffle Brook Park in Hawthorne.

“We prefer to get all of our new and existing customers used to a fixed schedule
and location; rather than to be stationed in different places every week,” says General Manager David H. Ramirez. While Cocina Cecilia has parked at various spots over the years, they find their current location is the most successful. “Goffle Brook Park ended up being a great fit. Many of its residents are within walking distance from where we are stationed,” David says.

Popular Peruvian Meals

Cocina Cecilia is far beyond a typical lunch truck. They sell well-known Peruvian dishes such as lomo saltado, arroz chaufa con maduros, and papa a la huancaina. Their lomo saltado includes stir-fried beef or chicken, French fries, tomatoes, and red onions with rice. Likewise the arroz chaufa con maduros comes with Peruvian fried rice, green onions, turkey bacon, scrambled eggs, and fried plantains. Finally, the papa a la huancaina includes sliced boiled potatoes, spicy creamy Peruvian cheese sauce, lettuce, and hard-boiled egg.

However, David’s favorite dish is seco de carne con frijoles. This is cilantro beef stew with potato slices, Peruvian white canary beans, white rice, and pickled red onions.

Many menu items at Cocina Cecilia are gluten-free. In fact, the menu includes icons indicating which items are gluten-free, vegetarian, or spicy. They also offer catering, as well as delivery via Uber Eats, Grubhub, and Doordash.

About Cocina Cecilia

Cocina Cecilia has been serving their signature Peruvian dishes since 2017. But the business was first created just to sell Peruvian sauces. The idea for the truck came later, launching in mid-2018. “Introducing Peruvian flavors to the world was our mother’s idea,” David explains. “Her culinary skills were sharpened with generational experience and lots of practice. My brother, Jonathan Ramirez, decided to help her achieve this goal and started the business.”

Future plans ideally include expanding the business to multiple trucks. “We love being stationed at the park and would love to extend our reach to neighboring counties,” David says.
