Morristown-Beard Day Camp

Education never ends and this summer, you can advance your child’s learning at a college preparatory day camp. The Morristown-Beard Day Camp, is accredited by the American Camp Association and enables children to develop in such areas as science, dance, arts, athletics, swimming, and crafts. Children learn the importance of good sportsmanship and self-confidence during their structured daily schedules, with some special events days tossed in to make learning fun.

This seven-day camp, designed for campers age three and a half to age fourteen, has options for early arrival, extended day and hot lunches. The hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. For Summer 2015, MBDC will run from June 22 through August 7. The 22-acre campus of the Morristown-Beard School is the setting for the camp. There is the William E. Simon Athletic Center, where campers can use sports courts, playing fields, a running track, and turf fields. The Center also has a 25-meter, six-lane indoor pool.

What to Expect from Morristown-Beard Day Camp

At Founders’ Hall, campers can take advantage of the Performing Arts Center, which has a theater, a dance studio, and rooms for drama and music instruction. Arts and crafts are taught in the Art Building, and campers learn about science in the school’s modern laboratories. The Student Center is where kids play games, and lunch is enjoyed in the Dining Hall.

Morristown-Beard Day Camp has a selection of specialty programs. Campers can select from History Adventures, a CIT Program, a Writing Workshop, or a Mountain Bike Camp. There are camps for robotics, ceramics, music production, fashion, or using an iPad for digital photography and film. Campers can even get a head start with their college essay. Kids ages twelve and thirteen are eligible to go on field trips for an additional charge. Destinations for this summer include a trip to the beach, Dorney Park, Mountain Creek Waterpark, Combat Sports, Six Flags Great Adventure, and Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark. All of the campers can enjoy weekly special events, such as a visit from a hypnotist or a magician.

There are also programs for the traditional day camp component. With the aquatics program, campers receive a swim lesson, with a focus on Red Cross instruction. Older students can learn water safety. All campers enjoy a session of free swimming with planned activities. The athletics program offers a selection of sports, along with tournaments. During arts and crafts, campers create design projects by weaving, painting, or puppet making. With performing arts, campers learn dance and perform in a talent show as well as a final dance show.

Science at the day camp is based on age groups, starting with natural science, going into chemistry, and ending with food science and physics. As with any day camp, there are lots of organized games for the participants.
