NJ Places to Get That Star Wars Fix

Star Wars buffs are already stoked for next week’s release of Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens. Due out in the US on Friday, December 18, fans have been waiting 10 years for a new episode. (The last one was 2005’s Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.) First-day presales were unprecedented, and online ticket demand caused websites like Fandango to crash. As early as last week, Star Wars lovers started waiting outside of movie theaters across the country.

For those who aren’t already on line, you can use the Force- I mean this list, of theaters offering movie promotions and cool surprises to feed your Star Wars habit. If you plan on attending in costume, make sure your theater does not have restrictions set in place.

AMC Theatres

If you can get a ticket, you can see all seven Star Wars movies compiled into a mega marathon. The AMC Garden State 16 in Paramus will be the only AMC in the state hosting this event. You’ll start with The Phantom Menace and end with The Force Awakens. The first six films will be shown in 2D, leading up to the new release in 3D. This back-to-back movie journey begins at 1:00 am on Thursday, December 17. The running time will be 16 hours and 40 minutes. Movie guests will receive such perks as a commemorative Stormtrooper pin and an event lanyard.

Additionally, all AMC Theatres will be hosting Star Wars Sundays; every Sunday, December 20 through January 10, guests with a ticket to see The Force Awakens in IMAX 3D will receive an AMC-exclusive Star Wars print by artist Dan Mumford. A new poster will be revealed each week.

Select AMC locations also offer the option of dining in. If you see The Force Awakens in Bridgewater, West Orange, or Edison, you can have dinner during the movie. Visit the AMC Theatres website for all location information and event details.

Bergen PAC

On January 15, Star Wars fans can enjoy the One-Man Star Wars Trilogy at the Bergen Performing Arts Center (PAC). Performed and written by Charles Ross, the off-Broadway comedy packs the Star Wars trilogy into a night of geekiness and fun. Tickets range from $29.00 to $49.00, but be sure to leave your lightsabers at home. For more info, visit The Bergen PAC website or call the box office at 201-227-1030.

Bow Tie Cinemas

With 19 locations throughout the Garden State, Bow Tie Cinemas will have plenty of screens for the opening of The Force Awakens on December 18. Bow Tie Cinemas, which date back to the year 1900, are known for their style and elegance. I recommend buying some of their famous Jack & Harry’s gourmet flavored popcorn for the movie. Visit their website for location details and event info.

Carmike Cinemas

Star Wars fans can see The Force Awakens on December 17 or 18 at Carmike Cinemas. You can select from four New Jersey locations including Sparta, Cranford, and Westfield. Their website has additional information.

Cinemark

Cinemark’s Hazlet and Somerdale locations will handing out exclusive RealD 3D Star Wars glasses. There are two ways to score a pair of the collectible: The first is by viewing the early release of The Force Awakens in XD RealD 3D on December 17 at either New Jersey location, and the other option is to buy a Star Wars concession combo. Visit the website for details.

Regal Cinemas

Regal Commerce Center Stadium 18 in North Brunswick will have multiple showings of The Force Awakens on December 18 in both 2D and 3D, lasting from 9:00 am until 11:20 pm.
All Regal Cinemas will be featuring Star Wars Saturdays from December 19 through January 9. The first 500 movie goers will receive a collector’s ticket featuring unique art from The Force Awakens, with new art being featured each week. Visit www.regmovies.com for details.

Tropicana IMAX

The IMAX Theatre at Tropicana will be hosting a pre-screening of The Force Awakens on December 17. Show times at the Atlantic City theater will be at 7:00 pm and 10:00 pm.
If you can’t make the preview event, don’t fret. The new Star Wars film will be available at the Tropicana from December 18 through January 28. For more info, visit either Ticketmaster or Tropicana, or call the Tropicana Casino directly at 800-843-8767.
