As the saying goes, the children are our future. So prepping kids for the future is essential for raising a happy and strong young mind. Through family engagement, extracurricular activities, and even new media, parents can strengthen the minds of their kids; as a result, kids can fluently engage with the world around them.
While stimulating activities are vital for the mental health of children, media is becoming increasingly popular in everyone’s lives; but using it as a tool early on in a child’s life can help them. For instance, it lets them access the vast culture and knowledge of the world, thus preparing them for the future.

New Media Can Help Kids Develop New Skills
Dr. Jeanette Betancourt, Senior Vice President of U.S. Social Impact at Sesame Workshop, sat down with Steve Adubato, PhD., on a segment of Caucus: New Jersey with Steve Adubato to discuss the importance of media and how it helps children in their worldly endeavors.
To fully take advantage of media, Dr. Betancourt suggests parents utilize the practice of “co-engagement.” She explains: “Co-engagement is really the idea that I’m experiencing just as I would with a book, [but] I’m doing it through media.”
She continues: “Sometimes we look at media in a way that it’s very singular. ‘It is only me in that experience…’ [But] we’re developing [our children’s] experiences—how they talk about things, how they experience things—and adults are just guiding that as well. And being a part of that as a parent, it’s really critical.”
