Monmouth Film Festival Coming Soon to Red Bank

Both filmmakers and fans alike will soon have the opportunity to get together and appreciate their mutual love for movies when the 2nd Annual Monmouth Film Festival comes to the Two River Theater in Red Bank on August 11-13. The festival recently announced its 2017 film selections as well as a number of the panelists and special guests that are expected to attend.

But attending screenings and panels is only a portion of what’s on offer.

What to Expect from the Monmouth Film Festival

Highlights from the 2017 film selections include both Lemon and Shooting Clerks. Lemon stars Michael Cera (Superbad, Arrested Development) in the role if Isaac; a man whose life goes into a downward spiral after his blind girlfriend leaves him. Meanwhile, Shooting Clerks is a biographical drama that tells the story of Kevin Smith; in particular, how the Red Bank native produced Clerks, the film that launched his career. With a budget of just $27,000 (after maxing out his credit cards), Smith was able to finish the film and submit it to the Sundance Film Festival in 1994. The rest is, well, the subject of its own feature film.

Beyond screenings, the Monmouth Film Festival also hosts a networking event that takes place on August 11. The event attracts veterans from all aspects of the industry, including actors, casting directors, writers and more. According to festival organizers, “companies and organizations including Backstage, FACES, BBR Productions, the New Jersey Film Commission, and Bicoastal MGMT will be present and ready to mingle.”

There is also an Industry Film Panel featuring Taimak, star of the cult classic film The Last Dragon; Thomas Crowell, author of the best-selling Pocket Lawyer for Filmmakers and Pocket Lawyer for Comic Book Creators; and Emmy award-winning documentary editor and filmmaker Jennifer Fineran. Additional panelists have yet to be announced.
