Located in tiny Tighe Town in Franklinville, Cap’N Cat Clam Bar is a beloved local eatery established in 1986. For those who don’t know, Tighe Town has one motel, one liquor store, one tavern, and some of the best seafood in New Jersey at this clam bar This family-owned resturant serves up fresh Dungeness crab, oysters, shrimp, and clams daily.

Though the menu is limited and has no sides available, they have one of the best raw bars in the area.

Start with the house’s Seafood Bisque. This soup is served in a large bowl and is full of delicious shredded seafood. This clam bar in New Jersey also offers clam stew and oyster stew, as well as the Cap’N Chowder. Locals rave about the soup, so definitely be sure to try a bowl when you go.

This top raw bar is also famous for the Dungeness crab. This meal comes in a regular size, XL size, clusters, or legs, depending on your preference. You can also try the snow crab clusters, king crab legs, lobster tails, mussels, or smoked whiting. The house cocktail sauce, a unique, delicious blend, is the perfect complement to the seafood options.

What’s unique about this clam bar in New Jersey is that they allow guests to bring their own vegetables, potatoes and other side items to accompany the seafood. While you are dining and enjoying the atmosphere, you can order wine, beer or other drinks.

The dining area of the Cap’N Cat Clam Bar is casual and homey. It features rustic elements like wood-paneled ceilings and ornate Tiffany-style lamps overhead.

They offer live music at the piano every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening. The owners of this establishment also own the Little Ease Tavern next door. If you’re looking for a nightcap, stop over after for a drink.  Throughout the week, and especially on weekends, the Cap’N Cat Clam Bar is very crowded, so be sure to get there early or be prepared to wait to be seated.
