December is here and baby, it’s cold outside. More and more brides are choosing to celebrate amongst the silver snowflakes, white lights, and sparkling icicles on their special day. If you look at bridal fashions, you’ll see that designers are creating gowns that embody the winter wonderland theme.
In the spirit of the season, I asked representatives from Alfred Angelo (America’s oldest bridal company) and David’s Bridal (America’s largest bridal store chain) to select their favorite gowns and accessories for winter weddings. From dazzling gowns and flowing wraps to glittery jewels, here are the elements for becoming a Frozen bride.
“For a wintry wedding, Alfred Angelo has styles that reflect the latest trends. We see gorgeous gowns with sleeves, accessory pieces to add coverage, and crystal beading for added frosting,” says Shivonne Benitez of Alfred Angelo.
According to Benitez, new gown Style 951 offers a flattering fit and flare shape. Brides can order this in ivory or white. The gown is adorned with soft embroidered metallic lace and crystal beading. The sheer illusion yoke has long sleeves for coverage, with a modern twist. Style 951 is finished with a chapel length train.
The traditional bride may like Style 973. “This all-over lace A-line gown features a shoulder-baring neckline that blends into elbow length sleeves. The gown is richly accented with crystal beaded re-embroidered lace throughout, for added dimension. It is finished with crystal buttons and a chapel length train.” This gown is available in ivory, white, and ivory/light gold.
Benitez leaves her favorite bridal gown for last, Style 258, part of Alfred Angelo’s 2016 Disney Fairy Tale Weddings Bridal Collection. This dramatic gown is inspired by Elsa of Frozen. “This glistening gown of satin and tulle is for the ice princess at heart. The fitted bodice features tip of the shoulder straps and full length sheer tulle sleeves. The bodice and sleeves have been jeweled with crystal and metallic beading, rhinestones, and sequins. The soft ball gown is finished with a chapel length Watteau train.” Elsa can be ordered in ivory/gold, white/gold, ivory/silver, or white/silver. (If you prefer another princess, Alfred Angelo also has styles for Ariel, Aurora, Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, Rapunzel, Snow White, and Tiana.)
What about some fun winter accessories? Alfred Angelo offers a hooded taffeta coat, Style 2465. Available in diamond white and white, it has a semi-cathedral train and three-quarter sleeves. Or perhaps you would prefer detachable white or ivory lace sleeves, like Style SLV-10? The designer also has mini bridal jackets for added style and warmth.
Now that the bride has some fashion ideas, what about her court? According to Benitez, Alfred Angelo designs bridesmaid gowns with velvet bodices paired with satin, organza, or chiffon shirts. There are 62 colors to choose from. “Velvet is soft, easy to wear, and has a distinct richness. The bridesmaids can choose a strapless style, a V-neck bodice with sleeves, or a chic drape over one shoulder. You have the option of a cocktail length or floor length hemline. We also design just for the flower girl.”
