Today in NJ, 2016: National Swimming Pool Day

July 11, 2016, is National Swimming Pool Day. The idea of swimming recreationally dates back to 2500 BCE. In Egypt, paintings and drawings of people swimming can be found. The largest heated salt-water swimming pool in the US is the Fleishhacker Pool, measuring 1,000 feet by 150 feet. Lifeguards would patrol the pool using kayaks; it opened in 1925 and closed in 1971 due to low patronage. Celebrate Swimming Pool Day by swimming at a local pool.
