It’s that time of year again, folks; the birds are chirping, the flowers are blooming and Morristown is hosting the perfect combination of beer, barbecue and bacon to prepare for cookout season. The 3rd Annual Beer BBQ Bacon Showdown is scheduled to take place on May 20 at Lewis Morris Park and, if the event organizers have their way, it’s “destined to become a New Jersey Spring classic.”
Those interested are invited to indulge in delectable dishes from the likes of Wharton’s Hot Rods BBQ, Hackensack’s Kimchi Smoke Barbecue, Jefferson’s Texas Smoke Barbecue, Rahway’s Bearded Pigs BBQ competition team and more. Hosted outdoors and under tents, the massive cookout is notable for its dedication to delicious recipes using both bacon and barbecue as ingredients; but there’s so much more to the Beer BBQ Bacon Showdown than just the food.
More than 30 NJ-only breweries will accompany the gourmet food trucks, restaurants and chefs, making this one of the top craft beer festivals of the season as well. Each brewery will offer four styles of beer for attendees to taste, one of which will be a rare brew created specifically for the event. As a sampling of the breweries that have signed on to attend, Angry Erik, Cricket Hill, Jersey Girl and Departed Soles will all be making an appearance.
Though the festival is all about having fun, a little friendly competition never hurt anyone; not only will a panel of celebrity judges select the best of the featured chefs, food trucks and restaurants, there will also be People’s Choice awards given out for the “Best Dish” as well as “Best Beer.” If that isn’t enough entertainment for you, Street Hassle and the Brass Balls will be performing live throughout the event.
The Beer BBQ Bacon Showdown kicks off at 1:00 pm and runs until 5:00 pm. A special VIP hour takes place prior to the event, beginning at noon, which features a special buffet created by Chef Chris Masey as well as two VIP-only breweries that will not be making an appearance during the general admission portion of the festival. VIP attendees will also receive a gift during the early entry hour.
Both VIP and general admission tickets can be purchased online here. Plus, as a special bonus for reading this article, Best of NJ fans can save $15 on VIP or general admission tickets pre-event by entering the following code at checkout: BestofNJ. We hope to see you there!
