Sometimes, the best way to get through difficult times is with a soothing creative outlet. For North Jersey native Michelle Fleischer, embroidery helped her overcome one of life’s most challenging situations. Now, she pays it forward through Embroidery Babes. Her business offers specialty clothing and accessories, and also hosts embroidery events.
Prior to starting her business, Michelle struggled with infertility. The depression and anxiety this caused led her to hand embroidery, which reduced her stress. Michelle successfully gave birth to her daughter via IVF, and afterwards started Embroidery Babes. Her mission is to pass this creative outlet on to others, and hopefully bring joy to anyone who needs it. She also shares her story to inspire others to turn their struggles into something positive.

Shop, Stitch, & More
Embroidery Babes offers a number of services. Michelle’s online shop is where patrons can purchase unique clothing and accessories for both kids and adults. But the best part of her job is hosting embroidery parties, workshops, and events across the North Jersey/NY area. For instance, she travels around the area hosting Stitch & Sips for adults. These BYOB events are most popular as a ladies’ night out, school fundraiser, or a holiday-themed get-together.
Workshops include the Decorate & Stitch: Mom & Me, Handwriting with Embroidery, and Hand Embroidery Basics. These classes do not require any prior experience, and are perfect for individuals, groups, or families. Most workshops are two-hour sessions and include a take-home embroidery kit that includes all necessary materials. Participants can either bring an article of clothing to stitch, or purchase one from Michelle.

Don’t worry about leaving with a masterpiece that only a master embroiderer can produce. “This is more of a fun, social event rather than a technical workshop,” Michelle explains.
About Embroidery Babes
Embroidery Babes offers nationwide shipping on items available from the online shop. In addition, Michelle accepts custom commissions for one-of-a-kind pieces. In fact, she says these commissions are often the most meaningful pieces she works on.
“I recently created a custom denim jacket for a memorial service with a loved one’s name embroidered on it; and a sweatshirt for a local basketball coach with all of his players’ numbers on it,” Michelle explains.

Looking ahead, Michelle hopes to expand Embroidery Babes workshops across all of New Jersey. She also dreams of creating a wellness retreat with other small businesses who focus on self-care.
Embroidery Babes currently hosts events throughout the North Jersey / New York area, and offers nationwide shipping on clothing and accessories. Look for Michelle online to schedule a workshop or learn more.
