From saving lives to serenading souls, one registered nurse from the Garden State showcased her talents by auditioning for NBC’s hit reality singing competition, The Voice, and came out a star. Her name is Felicia Temple, but as you’ll soon find out, she has a very special nickname that led to one of her dreams coming true live on stage during her performance.
On this episode of Life & Living with Joanna Gagis, singer-songwriter and nurse at Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck, Felicia Temple, visited the set to talk to show host Joanna Gagis about Temple’s two passions; helping lives and creating beautiful music. Temple also discussed what it was like to perform with her idol, Alicia Keys, on NBC’s The Voice.
In high school, Temple earned the nickname “Felicia Keys” from her friends for her powerful voice and impressive vocal range that she’d showcase at various talent shows. Years later, Temple wowed the judges at her Voice audition. After learning about her nickname, fellow judge Adam Levine had a very special idea; Temple was asked to sing a duet with her idol, Alicia Keys, on stage that very night. After her audition, Temple continued to work closely with Keys and other talented musicians, and was able to learn a lot from her experience on The Voice.
“The show really teaches you to think outside the box,” said Temple. “Every artist — they come in with something that they’re comfortable with, songs they’re comfortable with singing… and the show just really opens you up. They give you song choices that you may not have thought of for yourself.
“They push you outside of your comfort zone, which is really great,” she added, “because we all say we don’t like to be put in a box, but in some ways we’re really comfortable in that box that we live in. So it really helped me grow.”
