The Hackensack University Medical Center — aka HackensackUMC — is a 900-bed non-profit, research and teaching hospital located seven miles (11 km) west of New York City, in Hackensack, Bergen County, New Jersey. The award-winning hospital provides tertiary and healthcare needs for northern New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area, treating over 400,000 outpatients per year.

Founded in 1888 with just 12 beds, HackensackUMC was Bergen County’s first hospital. As they continue to grow and flourish, this nonprofit, teaching and research hospital has grown to become the largest provider of inpatient and outpatient services in New Jersey. Not only have they added 763 more beds to our facilities, they are now Bergen County’s hub of healthcare for the Northern New Jersey and New York metropolitan areas. It enjoys numerous clinical, research and academic affiliations with world-renowned partners.
HackensackUMC is one of Bergen County’s largest employers with a workforce of over 7,600 employees. The more than 1,600 physicians and dentists on the medical and dental staff represent the full spectrum of specialties and subspecialties and are international leaders in healthcare. HackensackUMC is the Hometown Hospital of the New York Football Giants and the New York Red Bulls soccer team.
