New Jersey boasts a number of distinguished colleges and universities that are committed to facilitating the growth and achievements of their students. These schools offer classes, programs and clubs that provide specific knowledge and teachings that aid students in their pursuit of success. One such example, Georgian Court University, maintains a program that boosts the confidence, skills and triumphs of each of its members.
On this episode of Caucus: New Jersey with Steve Adubato, Chelsea Sikora, graduate assistant for Women in Leadership Development (WILD) at Georgian Court University, spoke to show host Steve Adubato, PhD., about how WILD is providing young women with tools and life skills that they can take into the real world.
WILD is dedicated to educating and empowering undergraduate women. The program was strategically designed to improve a student’s ability to lead others personally and professionally.
“Women in Leadership Development…” Sikora explained, “focuses on equipping young college women with the skills that they need to survive outside of Georgian Court to enable them to be confident leaders, but also to be successful in their chosen careers.”
Members of WILD go through four phases of leadership development in which they learn a number of valuable skills. The first couple years of the program involve personal reflection and development, which allows the students to learn more about who they are.
“You can’t lead others if you don’t have an understanding of your own values and what it is that your strengths are,” stated Sikora.
During the final years of the program, WILD helps students focus on preparing for their future careers by assisting in résumé writing, tips for pitching yourself, building job interview skills and more.
