The Key Look Provides Hair & Makeup Wedding Services for WOC

The Key Look Hair and Makeup for Wedding

In February of 2020, Keziah Jones founded The Key Look after noticing a specific problem with the makeup industry. There was no business specifically catering to women of color. Now, The Key Look is the No. 1 black owned wedding hair and makeup team in New Jersey.

Keziah and her team of 20 makeup artists and hairstylists have worked on over 500 weddings to date. They customize every client’s makeup and hair to suit their personal tastes, and also offer barbering services. “We are one of the few companies who provide wedding hair and makeup services for all skin tones and all hair types,” says Keziah. “Our expertise in working and connecting with different cultures is our superpower.”

Specialized Hair & Makeup for Women of Color

The Key Look primarily services weddings in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. But the team will travel when necessary, including for destination weddings. They book 12 to 18 months in advance, and exclusively provide wedding services.

Keziah and her team only use luxury-branded hair and makeup products, staying away from drugstore brands. “I love seeing brides happy on their wedding day,” she says. “I also love seeing bridal party members feel and look amazing on their loved one’s wedding day.”

Brides for Wedding

The Key Look stays up to date on all the most current makeup and hair trends. “Everyone wants their makeup effortless and natural, and I love it,” Keziah says. She personally loves natural makeup and glowing skin. As for hair, she is seeing a trend of glam waves. “Everyone wants enhancements and not too much transformation.”

About the Owner

Keziah was born and raised in Newark, and currently lives in Rahway. She attended cosmetology school before starting her makeup career at Sephora. She has also taken many educational courses in marketing, business, and makeup. But it’s always been her dream to own her own business. “I just didn’t know what it would be until I found a love for makeup,” she explains. “I fell in love with the wedding industry after doing a queer wedding. Since then, I’ve been doing weddings.”

Keziah’s philosophy on makeup is simple. “Makeup is like baking a cake. You must prep the pan first for the cake to come out delicious and perfect. If you don’t, the cake comes out a mess. The same goes with makeup.”
