Parents no longer have to hear their children endlessly sing Old MacDonald Had a Farm or Itsy Bitsy Spider. Songs for Seeds, a new children’s music class in Ridgewood, is overhauling the stereotypical class filled with tired nursery rhymes. They blend a mix of current Top 40 hits with original music specifically designed for kids.
Songs for Seeds offers music classes at the YMCA in Ridgewood. The curriculum is equally educational and fun, incorporating playful elements that explore language, animals, shapes, and numbers. This way, children not only enjoy themselves but learn and discover new concepts through music and movement. Plus, thanks to the music selection, parents can also enjoy the experience.

Owner Courtney Karasin says Songs for Seeds is “designed to be both playful and inviting. We’ve created a warm, welcoming atmosphere that’s perfect for families.”
Courtney says one thing that sets them apart is their setup, which is made to be mobile. “This allows us to transform the space dynamically, ensuring that both parents and children are fully immersed in the classes.” In addition, The curriculum is updated regularly. That way, no two classes are ever the same.

Songs for Seeds enhances and fosters children’s development, happiness, and problem-solving skills. Children learn languages, shapes, and colors through songs and activities. “This approach helps them build confidence, enhance social skills, and nurture their creativity—all while having a great time.”
The 45-minute classes are suitable for children zero to five, and each class includes a maximum of 15 kids. They also offer private at-home group classes that are 30 or 45 minutes. “Our classes are designed to be the highlight of the week for both parents and kids.”
About Songs for Seeds
Courtney owns the spot along with her husband, Jesse. They first discovered Ridgewood in 2015 while visiting a florist in town during their wedding planning. “It was a town we’d never visited before,” Courtney recalls. “And we thought it was awesome. From the charming park to the bustling downtown and the overall lively vibe, Ridgewood had us at ‘hello.’”

However, the first Songs for Seeds locations were opened in Connecticut and Long Island. It wasn’t until the pair decided to expand into New Jersey that they recalled the town. Courtney says they “immediately thought of Ridgewood as the perfect place to plant our first Songs for Seeds flag.”
Courtney was previously a line producer at MTV, where she honed her skills in production management. Jesse has a background in management consulting and financial technology sales. They’re currently looking to open another Songs for Seeds location in New Jersey.
