Into the Void Sells Rare Antiques and Coffee in Jersey City

Into The Void Interior

History has many great duos. But perhaps one of the greatest is shopping and coffee. That’s what Into The Void – an antique boutique and coffee shop – offers in Jersey City. They focus on finding odd and rare furniture, art, and antiques, with a particular focus on 20th century modern design.

If Into the Void sounds familiar, it’s because owners Greg Yannalfo and Andy Schulz already had an established company; they previously sold their products at special events, and online out of a warehouse in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Now, the 1,400-square foot space in Jersey City features couches, dinnerware, art, and everything in between.

Journey Into The Void

“You’ll never know what you’re going to find here,” Greg says. “We curate a unique assortment of fun and interesting items that you’ve probably never seen before; like space age stuff from the 80s, wild and colorful pieces from the 90s, and of course some mid-century modern classics,” he adds. The store’s background music varies depending on the day, ranging from 90s hip hop to heavy metal. “It’s always such a great vibe at the shop that some people just come to hang out.,” Greg explains.

The front of the space is where the coffee shop is, and serves a number of favorite drink items. (Kev Hurtado helms the coffee bar and manages the playlist.) In fact, Into The Void boasts a top-notch water filtration system to ensure quality water. They serve drip coffee from Elixr Coffee Roasters in Philadelphia; as well as monarch blend Espresso from Onyx Coffee Lab in Arkansas. Into The Void also brews their own cold brew and chai, and uses chocolate syrup made from raw cacao.

Meanwhile, the light food menu features Balthazar pastries. In addition, a local female shop owner makes donuts on Saturdays. Into The Void has three bistro tables and a community seating area, which altogether seats 12; with plans for outdoor sidewalk seating as well.

About the Owners

Greg and Andy previously worked in the coffee industry together, staying in touch over the years. During one discussion, Greg mentioned wanting to do something with coffee, but Andy was selling antiques at the time. Naturally, they combined the two ideas. “We had the time and ability to put thought and effort into creating a concept and putting it into reality,” Greg says. As for the location, Jersey City is a natural fit. “We thought that if there’s an area in NJ where people really appreciate amazing coffee and unique items, it’s Jersey City – and the community of the Village neighborhood of JC has been so welcoming right from the start,” Greg says.
