Long before starting Forensic Psychology Services in Vineland, Alexis Reyes, Psy.D., was interested in human behavior. She often wondered why people behave the way they do or choose certain lifestyles. The abundance of crime and substance abuse prevalent in her community growing up only added to her curiosity.

Now, Dr. Reyes is a clinical forensic psychologist specializing in psycholegal assessment. As the director of Forensic Psychology Services, LLC, she conducts court-ordered and private psychological evaluations. Typically, these assessments help inform legal decisions and provide information for use during sentencing. Her work also helps cases relating to reintegrating individuals back into the community from jail or prison, increasing parenting time, determining level of care for risk management, assessing whether someone is competent to stand trial, and determining whether a defendant can be held criminally responsible for their actions.

Expert Psychological Evaluations

Clients come to Forensic Psychology Services via court mandate, attorney recommendation, a law enforcement agency, or by individual request. “I believe that all people should be treated as individuals, regardless of their crimes,” says Dr. Reyes. “Everyone’s life experiences shape their behavior in some way. Part of my job is to understand what drives their behavior so that we can take action and prevent similar events from reoccurring.”

Dr. Reyes prides herself on working with various age groups. She has training in family-based evaluations, as well as criminal and civil assessments. Plus, her upbringing in an affected community gives her firsthand experience in understanding the challenges of mental illness. “This background allows me to empathize with individuals with similar histories and helps me develop a stronger rapport with them. It also helps me determine the changes that need to be made on a macro-level; such as with policies and government influence.”
