Doctor Dispels Mammography and Insurance Concerns for Women

Mammography

In recent years, cases of breast cancer have decreased in women all across the country. While the knowledge we’ve gained over the past couple of decades has significantly aided us in battling and preventing breast cancer, technological advances – and proper utilization of those technological advances – have ultimately made an enormous, positive difference. A mammography ia a type of breast imaging that uses low-dose x-rays to detect cancer early which dates back to the 1950s, particularly used before women experience any symptoms. During this stage, the potential cancer is most treatable.

What You Need to Know About Mammography Screening

Dr. Renee Armour, a breast oncologic surgeon at John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Edison, sat down for a segment of Caucus: New Jersey with Steve Adubato to discuss the changing mammography and breast cancer screening guidelines as well as the inconsistencies in insurance coverage as a result of these noteworthy changes.

Dr. Armour informed Adubato that very reputable organizations are putting out different standards for guidelines for screening, which has caused much confusion for women who are concerned about possibly being affected by breast cancer. However, Dr. Armour sheds light on the subject and provides key information for women who have these concerns, such as when it is a good time to start screening.

“Death from breast cancer is decreased if you start screening at [age] 40,” says Dr. Armour.
