Fun and Flowers Blossom at Essex County Family Day

Family Day

On April 16, Branch Brook Park hosted its annual Essex County Family Day event in the heart of the park, welcoming families and friends to enjoy all it had to offer. With the trees escaping their dormancy, the flowers blooming, and children and parents enjoying the warm weather, there was no better place to be this past weekend.

Branch Brook Park is governed by thousands of cherry blossoms, and during Family Day you could see the trees come to life in a blast of vibrant colors. Even the lake was occupied with fishermen on the banks, people paddle-boating, and the occasional father showing his son how to skip rocks across the water.

Upon reaching the body of the event, visitors were met with blaring, energetic music, tons of families, and the powerful aroma of grilled meats. Food vendors bordered the center of the party where both a DJ and human contortionist resided. At one point, the contortionist put his body through the openings of a racquetball racket and a tennis racket—at the same time.

On the outskirts of the main area were the slides and rock wall, flooded with children of all ages. Turtle Back Zoo showed its support of the event with an interactive mobile zoo, bringing some sheep, chicks, goats, and a pony. There were enough things to do to keep children active for hours, only leaving when they were dragged away by exhausted parents.

From the games and entertainment to the atmosphere and delicious foods, Branch Brook Park played host to another successful Family Day. It was a perfect opportunity for groups of families and friends to venture out and enjoy the warm weather, the company of others, and the convivial spirit of the community.
