For Sue Peterson, owning a tea house was a longstanding pipe dream. In fact, she thought about it so often that close friends and family got tired of hearing the story. But that dream is now a reality, as Sue is the owner of Your Cup of Tea in Mount Holly. Not only has she realized her dream, she’s done so in a significant location.
Your Cup of Tea occupies a location close to Sue’s heart. Her late son, Brian, owned a computer shop called The Basement Technician in the exact same location; nearly 20 years prior. In fact, the teahouse’s opening date of January 24 would have been Brian’s 40th birthday.

A Quiet Spot for Tea
Your Cup of Tea transports patrons to a traditional English or Irish tea house with its authentic décor. Stepping through the doors is like going in a time machine, and feels nothing like a modern day business. “It’s like going to your grandmother’s house for a visit,” Sue says. The spot seats up to 24 guests at six tables. “Everyone says they feel very comfortable here.”
Of course, no tea time is complete without pastries, and Your Cup of Tea provides plenty of options. They offer scones, mini crème puffs, eclairs, macarons, madeleines, and crumpets, all brought in from local bakeries. For example, the crème puffs come from Napoleon’s Cremepuffery in Lindenwold.

Meanwhile, they also serve loose tea and an array of tea bags in both standard varieties and seasonal selections. They even highlight local companies’ teas, like flavors from Wise Ape Tea in Haddonfield. “We’re trying to be that place you can come and relax and enjoy yourself while offering something unique,” Sue explains.
Sue makes her own tea sandwiches, however, she strays from tradition by not serving them on white bread. Instead, sandwiches at Your Cup of Tea are made on bread varieties like French toast, cheese, cranberry, or strawberry.
Parties, Afternoon Tea, & More
Your Cup of Tea offers afternoon teas (by reservation) and high teas (during dinner hour). These events include bottomless cups of tea, scones, sandwiches, and sweets. In addition, parties include hats, top hats, gloves, fake moustaches, and bowties to add a little fun. Future plans include a catering component where Sue can bring the tea party to guests.

Even kids can get in on the fun at Your Cup of Tea. The business hosts children’s parties where staff dress as a character such as Alice from Alice in Wonderland. During these events, children drink “tea” (lemonade, iced tea, or fruit punch) poured from a teapot. Party-goers can also enjoy kid-friendly sandwiches, like peanut butter and jelly, plus cupcakes for dessert.
