Trial by Fire
Surprisingly, neither Victoria nor her parents are trained bakers. Instead, they hired a pastry chef to collaborate on the menus together and open the cafe. But after just two months the chef quit, forcing Victoria to learn how to make everything from scratch and become a pastry chef. It took a 15-day crash course and guidance from a highly trained pastry chef/family friend to learn the base of patisserie. After this intense training, Victoria also had to learn a lot by herself. She is now proud to wear her chef coat. Now, along with her mother and their baker, they bake everything on site and each have their own specialty.
The bakery uses a French-American baking fusion. For birthday cakes, patrons can choose from their 6 delicious flavors and customize the design. Victoria specializes in cake decorating. They also display cupcakes every day and change their menu every 2 months to introduce new and different flavors. Seasonal options include new flavors as well as holiday-themed treats for Valentine’s Day, Easter, Christmas, and more.

About Victoria’s Cake
Victoria’s family is originally from Bordeaux, France, but came to New Jersey via Miami in 2020. They opened Victoria’s Cake in September 2021, deciding on Westfield as the perfect location for their business. Victoria’s background is actually in interior design. She designed the space and kitchen to create the perfect Parisian and “instagrammable” cafe.
“In France and Europe we have a lot of small cafés for croissants and hot chocolate—very cute, very intimate—where you can spend hours with your friends,” says Owner Victoria Mamet. “We saw here in America that you don’t have a lot of salon de thé. So we wanted to create a nice Parisian, European atmosphere.”

Looking Ahead
“That’s what we’re doing for now, but we want to expand,” Victoria says. “We are very ambitious and opened this with a very entrepreneurial mindset. We created this because it’s very unique here in New Jersey; we’re one of a kind, but our goal is to open more.”
