The Roost Serves American Classics in Egg Harbor

The Roost Pub and Grill Outdoor Dining

There’s a simple explanation behind the naming of The Roost Pub and Grill in Egg Harbor Township. It comes from the turkeys that roam Harbor Pines Golf Club, where the pub and grill is located. The restaurant offers a twist on classic American dishes and specialty cocktails.

The Roost is open to the public, replacing the former golf pro shop at the club. It has 2,500-square feet of interior space and 2,000 square feet of outdoor dining space. Inside, the restaurant offers table, high-top, and bar seating. Mitchell Gurwicz, an owner of Harbor Pines Golf Club and Roost, says it has an industrial farmhouse modern feel. He also notes the rugged and timely, classic rustic elements. For instance, patrons will notice exposed brick and beams with thick butcher block tabletops and a leather granite bar top.

Meanwhile, The Roost boasts year-round outdoor dining – weather permitting – from a deck with umbrella-covered tables and Adirondack chairs. They also have a fully-covered patio and fire pit. All outdoor dining has views of the first tee, 9th and 18th greens, and the course’s lake and gazebo.

American Favorites & More

The menu includes staples such as burgers, grilled cheese, wings, and wraps. However, dinner choices include specialty dishes like Filet Mignon and shrimp tortellini. The Roost even creates fusion bites, from fried pork pot stickers to chili lime shrimp kabobs. Mitchell says the Asian glazed salmon, crab cakes, and Cowboy steak are must-haves. Their flatbread options are fan favorites as well, with varieties like caprese, shrimp, and cheesesteak.

Flatbreads

While The Roost does not have a designated gluten-free menu, they can modify most items upon request. But these items are made in the same kitchen, as they do not have a designated gluten-free kitchen.

As for drinks, their namesake is also their specialty cocktail. The Roost is made with Wild Turkey 101, orange bitters, and a splash of homemade simple syrup. Another popular pick is the White Claw Cooler, with White Claw vodka, elderflower, lime mint soda, and cucumber. The drink menu further features an extensive selection of beer, wine, and liquor.

Future plans include extending their current live music selection. “Locals seem to love to dine with the music,” Mitchell says. They will also roll out creative and fun specials throughout the off season.

About the Owners

The Gurwicz family owns Harbor Pines and The Roost Pub and Grill. Hospitality has always been important to the family, who are popular for their golf course and post-round food/drinks. But The Roost is their first foray into a fully realized restaurant concept. They look forward to serving both golfers and the general public alike.
