The Morris Proper in Morristown believes comfort and excellence aren’t opposites. Rather, they’re partners. Their menu – and mission statement – embodies honest, comforting food made properly. The 12,000-square-foot restaurant is located between the Morristown Green and the town’s train station.
The new ground-up construction space has a 360-degree bar, an open kitchen, and floor-to-ceiling windows. The Morris Proper can seat about 250 patrons across a mix of indoor and outdoor wraparound patio seating. Jason Leeds, founder of Chelsea Hospitality, says, “It’s a chic blend of vintage and modern elements. [It’s] a bright and airy space that pays tribute to Morristown’s rich history and exciting future.”

A Proper Meal
Signature offerings from The Morris Proper menu include handmade pastas, slow-roasted rotisserie meats, vegetable dishes, and seafood. Their elevated, seasonal menu changes regularly, but always remains focused on locally-sourced ingredients.
“Everything has been well received,” says Culinary Director David C. Felton. He was also the founding executive chef of Ninety Acres in Peapack and Gladstone. Focaccia and scallops are two of their most popular dishes, but David also raves about their pasta dishes. “And I have a soft spot for the chocolate mousse, being that it’s my mom’s recipe,” he says.

The seasonal drink menu is made in close collaboration with small winemakers, distillers, and local brewers, prioritizing sustainability and transparency. “The list is designed to balance comfort and curiosity. There will always be anchors of familiarity, but also something new to discover; whether that’s an elegant, minimal-intervention wine, a small-batch amaro, or a cocktail that reimagines a classic with a fresh perspective,” says Beverage Director Beau Burtnick.
Brunch and special events and classes are coming to The Tasting Room (their private dining room) soon.
