Fans of prime cuts of meat have a new spot to check out. Prime No. 7 in Mahwah only uses prime cuts – like the 7th rib of the rack – in their cooking. In fact, they are the first restaurant in Mahwah to exclusively offer authentic Korean cuisine. A unique cooking method further enhances their menu’s flavor, which also includes tofu.
The owners of Prime No. 7 knew exactly where they wanted to open their Korean barbecue and tofu restaurant. “We noticed that there are no Korean restaurants in Mahwah; and wanted to provide a taste of our culture to the surrounding neighborhoods,” says Marketing Executive Manager Rachel Kim. “Locals no longer have to drive more than 45 minutes to feast on authentic Korean food.”

Korean BBQ & More
They cook their BBQ using an induction grill at Prime No. 7, for a quick and effective grilling method. “Our food can be best described as authentic and flavorful,” Rachel says. For instance, they use generations-old recipes to create a traditional Korean dining experience. “Each dish is made with the highest quality of ingredients, putting much care and love into the process of cooking.”
Popular picks include the Oodae Galbi. For this, they slightly pre-grill the 7th rib of the rack over a charcoal grill to enhance the flavor; then cut and serve right at the table. Another favorite is The Chef’s prime rib, a short rib with a marbling to the cut. “It brings out the perfect match of juicy and tenderness,” Rachel says. Pork belly is also a crowd pleaser, and comes with a variety of side sauces. In addition, all Prime No. 7 BBQ menu items come with a complimentary bean paste soup and egg souffle.

They also offer two styles of Hinoki Jjim. (Jjim is a Korean cuisine term for dishes made by steaming or boiling meat or fish that have been marinated in a sauce or soup). The first option has meat and veggies, while the second adds seafood to the mix. At Prime No. 7, they steam this dish in a cypress (Hinoki) wood steamer right at the table. Tofu soup is a specialty of Prime No. 7, and is gluten-free. To build their bowl, patrons first select a tofu flavor, then select a spice level. Vegetarian options are also available, and include bibimbap, a rice dish with vegetables. They can remove the meat from certain dishes to make them vegetarian as well.
