It’s tough for those with allergies to enjoy many of the sweet treats everyone else takes for granted. That’s why No Whey! Bake Shop in Howell specializes in allergen-free goodies. The bakery makes popular treats without using milk, gluten, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, soy, fish, eggs, shellfish, or sesame.
In addition to baked goods, No Whey! Bake Shop creates signature candies that are equally allergen-free. The shop is also vegan and kosher, and avoids using any artificial colors or flavors. Owner Yochy Miller has a background in product development and food safety for Heinz and Kellogg’s. He was able to launch the business after a successful crowdfunding campaign via Kickstarter.

Cakes, Candies, Muffins, & More
Yochy’s original business idea was simply to make allergy-friendly M&M’s. Those candies are now part of No Whey’s menu, known as No No’s. “Our goal is to take mainstream products like Twix or M&M’s and make them into our own versions that are safe for everyone to eat,” says Marketing Manager Nicole Ingraffia. “Everything is carefully made. We don’t want anyone to taste it and say it doesn’t taste like a true candy bar.”
Yochy also sells products online and in stores, and has done so for more than 10 years. These products are made at their manufacturing facility in Lakewood. However, frequent requests for a Twix-style candy bar promoted the team to open a brick-and-mortar shop. This allows them to serve all their favorite treats right out of the oven.
Besides candy, No Whey! Bake Shop sells brownies, cupcakes, and muffins in chocolate chip, blueberry, and double chocolate flavors. They also handle custom birthday cake orders. “It’s so special since kids don’t have to worry if it’s safe for them to eat,” Nicole says.

Patrons love their Hostess-like cupcakes (chocolate with cream inside), which are flying off the shelves. These fan-favorites now also come in a package of four. Likewise, their vanilla soft serve is already a hit after launching earlier in 2023. After perfecting the recipe, No Whey! Bake Shop now also offers chocolate ice cream. They serve ice cream in either a cup or homemade waffle cone.
Despite not having any food allergies, Nicole raves about the chocolate chip cookies. “You’d never know they don’t have gluten,” she says. “If I had to choose between ours and everyday chocolate chip cookies, I would choose ours.” She also loves their hamantaschen (apricot and raspberry) available around Purim.
