A new eatery offering authentic Indian cuisine is open in West Orange. New Ginger Indian Grill serves both signature Indian dishes as well as Indo-Chinese items. From a takeout dinner with family to corporate catering, the restaurant aims to create a classic yet creative menu.
New Ginger Indian Grill is delivery and takeout only. Owner Peter Fernandes actually took over the location from a friend. (Though the previous business was also an Indian restaurant, this new spot is a separate endeavor.) Prior to settling on this spot, Fernandes was looking to own his own restaurant; in fact, he has prior experience in restaurant management. So when the opportunity arose for the Hackensack resident, he seized it without much hesitation. “Things will always be crazy,” Peter says. “I took a chance. I was getting a good opportunity, so I took advantage of it.”

Authentic Indian Menu
The New Ginger Indian Grill menu highlights, of course, signature dishes from India. But they specialize in asparagus kofta (homemade cheese and veggie dumplings), and mango chicken curry; the latter features boneless chicken cooked in cashew sauce with mango puree and spices. The “chicken 65” is also a hit, with stir-fried chicken sauteed in chillies, onions, ginger, and garlic.
However, Peter says his favorite dish is lamb vindaloo. This signature item cooks seasoned lamb cubes in a rich, spicy, tangy gravy; then serves them with potatoes, coconut, and curry leaves. As for dessert, New Ginger Indian Grill patrons enjoy the gajar ka halwa; these fresh, grated carrots are cooked with cardamon and nuts.
The restaurant also offers catering, including a special offer on bulk orders. In particular, they offer 10% off all event, bulk orders. This can include events ranging from corporate lunches to birthday parties. In addition, future plans for the space include sit-down dining and a larger menu. For instance, Peter plans to add dishes that include eggplant, soups, and chicken dumplings.
