The cuisine of India isn’t easily broken up into regions, like many areas of the world. So dishes are not simply from North India or South India. Thanks to an array of cultures, climates, and states, India has a complex connection to food. At Kurry and Naan in Bridgewater, the various cuisines of India collide, with a heavy focus on North Indian flavors.
Kurry and Naan in Bridgewater offers traditional, authentic, and flavorful food prepared by a professionally trained chef. The 1,000-square-foot eatery provides self-service seating for 20 diners. Weather permitting, they also have patio seating for 20 beneath an awning. Chef and Owner Kay Signh lives in town, so opening in Bridgewater was an easy decision. About Indian Cuisine and The NJ Connection
In order to understand the diverse nature of Indian cuisine, it’s important to understand the diversity of India itself. The country has 28 states, 122 major languages, and eight union territories. India has a population of 1.408 billion (as of 2021). In addition, every region, state, and city has their own way of cooking and emphasis on certain flavors and dishes.
Over one million Asians live in New Jersey, with Indian Americans making up the largest ethnic group. In fact, nearly 5% of New Jersey’s population is South Asian, more than any other state in the nation. This has led to a rise in the number of Indian restaurants in the area, each with their own cuisine.
