Chocolatine Bakes French Pastries & More in Denville

Chocolatine Menu Sample

In the southwest part of France, classic croissant dough filled with chocolate is known as Chocolatine. Elsewhere, it’s known as pain au chocolat or, simply, a chocolate croissant. Now, the famous treat is also the name of a Denville pastry shop specializing in high-quality French pastries.

Besides its namesake, Chocolatine also offers individual cakes and tarts, macarons, beignets, Danishes, chocolate chip cookies and savory products. Owner and Baker Cedric Hosy lives nearby, and his wife’s family is from the area. “I love downtown Denville,” he says. “It’s a beautiful and quaint town.”

Sweet, Savory, & Gluten-free Delights

The 2,500 square foot space includes a large kitchen where Cedric bakes his products using classical French baking techniques. Chocolatine gives off a French vibe, of course. The secret to their pastries are hand-rolled croissants made with high-quality ingredients. The croissant menu includes flavors such as chocolatine, almond, chocolate almond, raspberry, raspberry chocolate, hazelnut, double chocolate, black cherry chocolate, strawberry chocolate, Nutella and other seasonal items . However, Cedric’s favorite is the butter croissant.

Cedric also recommends their macarons, which Chocolatine sells either individually or in boxes of six or 12. Macarons come in flavors like cookies and cream, chocolate, pistachio, vanilla, raspberry, blue birthday cake, strawberry verbena, and lemon yuzu. Other options include rose lychee, earl grey tea, lavender, blueberry, and mango passion fruit.

Additional favorites include Nutella and Pistachio rolls and cubes, beignets, Danishes, chocolate chip cookies, cruffins, and brioche buns. Meanwhile, Chocolatine bakes savory items like quiches (flavors include Mediterranean and goat cheese tomato basil) and ham and cheese croissants. Patisseries include Paris-brest, tartlets (apple or lemon meringue), opera, chocolate dome, and madeleines (vanilla, chocolate, crème Brulée). Gluten-free goers can enjoy the macarons as well as select pastries. The pastry shop also sells coffee, espresso, cappuccino, and gourmet tea.
