The space housing Charlie’s Place in Waldwick has always been a bar and tavern in some fashion since 1927. Its current iteration continues a longstanding tradition of serving the community with great food, interesting cocktails, and warm hospitality.
Charlie’s Place delivers a family-friendly dining experience. Their diverse menu features appetizers, small plates, large entrees, flatbreads, desserts, and drinks. In other words, “elevated comfort food” as Executive Chef Joey Sergentakis puts it. To create the menu, Chef Joey took classic bar fare and applied his Michelin-level skills and international experiences.

Bar & Tavern Favorites
Patrons will find classic dishes such as salads, burgers, steaks, pork chops, and salmon. In particular, the Charlie Smash Burger, pork belly bao buns, and salmon tacos are fan favorites. Likewise, popular bar snacks include whipped ricotta dip, pecorino and truffle fries, calamari, and the lamb skewers.
But Owner and Founder Daniel Grey says his favorite dish is the boneless crispy chicken. At Charlie’s Place, they cover traditional chicken bites with a miso-caramel glaze and furikake crunch. “I think this dish most highlights what we stand for—traditional comfort food with an upscale twist,” Daniel explains.

Even the kids look forward to a trip to Charlie’s Place, as they are well catered to with familiar options. Grilled chicken, chicken tenders, mac and cheese, and French fries are all part of the menu. Besides lunch and dinner, Charlie’s Place also serves weekend brunch every Saturday and Sunday. “We have the best French toast this side of the Atlantic,” Chef Joey says.
Their seasonal cocktail menu features fun plays on classic cocktails. For the winter, they featured a gingerbread old fashioned topped with a miniature gingerbread man. Daniel’s favorite cold-weather cocktail is the Embers & Apples, with rye, apple brandy, honey, and all spice. High-quality beers are available on draft and by the bottle/can. Tequila and whiskey fans will also be impressed by their selection.
