The Boaggio family loves baking bread. First opening in 1992, Boaggio’s Bread in Mount Laurel is a family-owned, artisan specialty bakery and market. Best known for their creative approach to rolls and breads, the company was started by Rich Boaggio’s father.
In 1992, Rich and his wife Donna took over ownership of Boaggio’s Bread. At the time, they delivered fresh bread to delis, pizzerias, schools, restaurants and caterers. By 1998, business was booming and so they moved to a larger location in Glendora. At this point, Boaggio’s was selling hamburger buns to TGI Friday locations. Then in 2018, the company moved to an even larger space in Mount Laurel, where they are today.

Adapting to the Times
During the COVID pandemic in 2020, Boaggio’s Bread once again pivoted. This time, their services expanded to offer curbside sales, selling pizzas, stuffed breads, and other baked goods. Their latest expansion in 2021 added a gourmet Italian market. “It’s been a hit ever since,” Donna says.
At the Boaggio’s Bread market, they sell imports from Italy including pastas, olive oils, vinegars, meats, and cheese. As for the prepared foods, everything is homemade on the premises (nothing is ever frozen or from a bag). They use fresh vegetables, produce, and meats to create chicken cutlets, stuffed peppers, prime rib, pizza, crab cakes, and pastries. In particular, customers love the overstuffed, hefty sandwiches served on a loaf of Italian bread. Click here to see their full menu.

Donna’s favorite menu item is the meatball; she loves a good fried one. In fact, Boaggio’s Bread participates in New Jersey’s annual Pizza Bowl competition, which also ranks the best meatballs in NJ. To date, they’ve won six awards including accolades for their stuffed breads and sandwiches. “People love our food,” Donna says. “It’s restaurant-quality food out of a market.”
About Boaggio’s Bread
All recipes at Boaggio’s Bread come from the family, including Donna, Rich, and their son Kevin. In fact, Kevin comes by on Saturdays to help his parents cook in the kitchen. (Despite having a full time job and his dedication to being a father of two.) Meanwhile, Rich taught himself to bake 35 years ago and provides consultations to other bakeries, restaurants, and chefs. “My husband is a bread genius. He can make dough sing,” Donna says. Besides cooking, Donna is currently working on a cookbook titled The Kitchen Bitch (which is also her nickname). “Cooking is my rest and anxiety relief,” she adds.
