10 NJ Breweries Opening in 2018

New Jersey is oh-so-close to housing 100 production breweries by the end of 2018. With about 75 tap rooms, a dozen brewpubs and a handful of brewing-only facilities, every New Jerseyan is within miles of a locally-brewed beverage on tap. We’re keeping an eye out for these 10 new craft breweries opening this year.

They’re just waiting for beer geeks and casual fans to come sample their wares!

Bonesaw Brewing Company

nj breweries, breweries

Where: Glassboro
Opening: Spring
What’s Brewing: To be decided
If you build it, they will brew. Prospective new brewers usually search for warehouse spaces or storefronts to build their dreams. The guys behind Bonesaw are building their brewery from the ground up – the first of its kind in Jersey. The production facility and tap room, which is steadily nearing completion, will be down the road from Rowan University.

Bradley Brew Project

Where: Bradley Beach
Opening: March
What’s Brewing: This is Hard but Making Beer is Fun! Lager, Cleaning, Doing Laundry or Making Beer Stout, That’s Enough Sweetiepie Blonde Ale
The husband and wife team of Mike and Chelsea Ziolkowski are bringing craft beer to the shore community of Bradley Beach. It’s location on Main Street will make it bikeable from the breweries of Asbury Park or the nearby beaches. Look for 10-12 “inspired and approachable” beers on taps with fun titles.

Fort Nonsense Brewing Company

Where: Denville
Opening: End of January
What’s Brewing: Benedict Amber Traitor Ale,  Saison Absurdité, Amber Ale, IPA
Three brothers from Rockaway (Thomas, James and Andrew Aslanian) learned their homebrewing hobby from their chemist father. Now, they are taking it full-scale with a brewhouse on Route 10 in Denville. Mixing a bit of local Revolutionary War history with local ingredients, the trio hopes to brew traditional beers along with some experimental and unusual beers.

Hackensack Brewing

Where: Hackensack
Opening: Summer (June or July)
What’s Brewing: Fairmount IPA, Belgian dubbel, a stout and traditional German styles (dunkles and bocks)
When Mike Jones isn’t thinking of fun names for his beers, he’s busy demolitioning a building in Hackensack to build his production facility and tap room. Located around the corner from The Alementary and behind a tombstone making company, the beers will pay tribute to the rich history of Hackensack while playing with spice mixtures that will enhance the malt and hop flavors.

Hidden Sands Brewing Company

Where: Egg Harbor Twp.
Opening: Mid-January
What’s Brewing: Pump Handle Honey Wheat Ale, 800-Foot Pils, First Drop Baltic Polter
What’s the most essential ingredient in beer? The water! Hidden Sands touts that they source their water for purity. They’ll use that with local ingredients to create a shore-centric operation in Atlantic County. The tap room will be unique in that it will overlook the brew tanks, so you can see the operation from above.

Jersey Cyclone Brewing Company

Where: Somerset
Opening: Spring 2018
What’s Brewing: Eye of the Storm IPA, Flood Waters Stout, Muddy Brown
Forget the bomb cyclone, how about a Jersey Cyclone? Located not too far away from the College Avenue campus of Rutgers University in a specious 5,000 sq. ft. warehouse (after a downtown New Brunswick space didn’t pan out), JCBC’s founder Jan Chwiedosiuk will be whipping up some beers for the thirsty 21-and-over Rutgers crowd.

King’s Road Brewing Company

Where: Haddonfield
Opening: Now
What’s Brewing: Mountwell Maibock, Hadrosaurus Hop Monster and Indian King IPA
New Year, new beer! After a late December soft opening, King’s Road is fully operational and serving beer in the dry town of Haddonfield. Like nearby Devil’s Creek in Collingswood, they got permission from the town to brew and serve suds fit for a king and queen. Located on King’s Highway, the small storefront used to be Gibbs Tavern, a historic pub that dates back to 1777.

MudHen Brewing Co.

Where: Wildwood
Opening: March
What’s Brewing: IPA, American Pilsner, Double IPA, Wheat
Another popular shore destination finally gets its first brewery. Even better, it will be a BBQ restaurant and smokehouse. Named after the first passenger train in Wildwood, the brewpub will pay tribute to the industrial era with plenty of exposed brick and woodwork plus an outdoor seating area. Expect a lot of beer-infused menu items, along with suggested pairings.

Source Brewing

Where: Colts Neck
Opening: Fall
What’s Brewing: IPAs, saisons and sodas
As someone who travels around the Northeast, farm breweries are always on my radar. After Screaming Hill, Source Brewing hopes to join the farm brewery ranks this year. Started by Shark Tank alum Philip Petracca (who’s at-home beer machine Fizzics got $2 million in funding), Source is currently renovating a barn and silos on a two-acre dairy farm across from Pebble Creek Golf Club and next to Delicious Orchards. The barn/tap room will be two stories with a terrace that overlooks the property.

Wild Bones Brewing Co.

Where: Morristown
Opening: Spring
What’s Brewing: Lager, Extra Special Bitter, IPAs and saisons
You read that right, Morristown is finally getting a brewery to call its own. Located next to the Morristown train station, four friends, with some inspiration from the Gaslight Anthem song “The Spirit of Jazz,” are converting an auto repair shop into a place for Morristown to embrace hop-forward craft beer.
