Gone are the days of having to drive into Manhattan for top-quality live entertainment and upscale cocktails. Newark Culture Club, a 2,000-square-foot live entertainment and craft cocktail venue, brings it all to New Jersey. The venue is kicking off their soft-open with a special comedy event.
“North Jersey really needs more venues for more intimate live entertainment options,” says Justin Williams, managing member of Newark Culture Club. A longtime Newark resident, he has produced the Brick City Comedy Revue in town for over a decade.

Newark’s New Destination for Live Events
To celebrate the soft opening, Newark Culture Club hosted a special edition of Brick City Comedy Revue on November 7. The event featured comedians Chris Gethard, Alonzo “Hamburger” Jones, Jess Salomon, Gordon Baker-Bone, Lance Weiss, and Chris Lamberth; along and musical guest, Brainorchestra. As for the official grand opening, Justin says that is “coming soon” and to stay tuned to their social media.
In addition to comedy shows, Newark Culture Club will host a variety of live entertainment. “Harmonica Does Bingo!” is a fun game night for making new friends, hosted by comedic drag queen Harmonica Sunbeam. Likewise, “Weeding Out The Stoned” is Alex Grubard’s nationally touring comedic game show of sobriety tests. Finally, Open Mic nights hosted by Joe Markz introduce audiences to up-and-coming comedians, musicians, and spoken word artists.

As for live music, the club features local musicians from Newark every Saturday at 7:00 pm. Artists include Janétza Miranda, Josué Simon, Sophia’s Daughter, and Chaancé Barnes. Weekend late nights then spotlight local Djs including DJ Brighter Daze, Gonzalo Silva, Dana J, DJ Sienna Chanel, and TheCainMarko.
Supporting Locally-Sourced & Black-Owned
The club’s rotating menu of libations primarily uses locally-made and black-owned products to create each cocktail. For instance, patrons can enjoy a selection of $15 craft cocktails made with spirits from Newark’s All Points West Distillery. Other local craft beers come from Newark Local Beer, Pallet Brewery, and Montclair Brewery. Their selection of black-owned wines include South Africa’s Kumusha and New Jersey’s LoveLee.

The curated food menu focuses on small bites like samosas, empanadas, and charcuterie plates.
About Newark Culture Club
Newark Culture Club is owned by a diverse investment team that primarily consists of Newarkers, minorities, and women.
In addition to highlighting the talent of Newark, the club strives to provide economic benefits to the city. Residents will be given hiring priority, Justin explains. With the support of The Audible Business Attraction Program’s Live Local and Shop Local incentives, the Club will pay higher wages than comparable jobs in New Jersey. They’re also using Newark-based and minority-owned firms for the completion of the project.
