In the current economic climate, countless families and individuals are affected by the ever-changing costs of health care and institutional care. But what some may not consider is that New Jersey businesses are also affected by these fluctuating costs. In the current evolving health care landscape, many industries are now working to provide the best care at the lowest cost.
For this episode of Caucus: New Jersey with Steve Adubato, show host Steve Adubato, PhD., hosted a panel of health care professionals to take a closer look at what shifting health care costs mean for businesses throughout the state. The panelists also discussed the ways providers are redefining care by focusing on population health care coordination to keep costs down and improve the well-being of all New Jerseyans.
The show’s guests included: Mary Ann Boccolini, president and CEO of Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice; Richard Miller, president and CEO of Virtua; Frank Rizzieri, president and CEO of Rizzieri Salons, Spa and Schools; and Betsy Ryan, president and CEO of the New Jersey Hospital Association.
Miller confirmed that the model of physician care in the state of New Jersey has been evolving over recent years.
“I think over the last couple of years, it’s been moving more toward an out-patient model of care,” Miller told Adubato. “We’re seeing patients outside the hospital walls, and the goal is to keep the patients outside the hospital walls. And what we’re really talking about is caring for them at home, through care coordination, and making sure they are seeing their primary care physician.”
Ryan added that the role of the primary care physician today is “to provide care to [patients] before they get sick, to identify disease early, to treat it early, and to keep the patient out of the hospital where possible.”
The panelists went on to discuss the increasing costs of care in New Jersey, including end-of-life health care which may be the highest in the country. To learn more about what these increasing costs mean for New Jersey businesses, don’t miss this edition of Caucus: New Jersey with Steve Adubato.
