“Comedy Cures” Helps People with Chronic Illnesses

We’ve all heard the expression “Laughter is the best medicine,” but have likely never taken it to be wholly true. Laughter certainly eases the body and mind, and allows one to relax and disengage from reality; but while it’s wonderful to be able to flip on the television, take a seat at a night club or gather around the dinner table and let our laughter facilitate a pleasant state of being, can it truly be considered medicine?

Comedy Cures

Comedian Monty Franklin sat down during a segment of One-on-One with Steve Adubato to discuss the world of stand-up comedy, his brand new show and how comedy helps people struggling with chronic illnesses.

Franklin tells viewers about writer, producer, radio host and cancer survivor Saranne Rothberg’s incredible non-profit organization, “Comedy Cures,” and their motto, “Live, love, laugh.”

“[Comedy Cures] brings in comedians and basically brings laughter to the people who need it—sick people, cancer patients…” says Franklin. “[Rothberg] puts on a lot of shows, a lot of charity events, brings in all sorts of comedians – famous or up-and-coming or whoever she can find and whoever has the time to do it – and brightens up the day of whoever needs the laughter.”
