Modern technology allows us to better survey the quality of our drinking water. Unfortunately, it’s also taught us that there is a growing list of cities across the nation affected by poor quality drinking water, weakening people’s health and tarnishing the statuses of various communities. In light of this growing water safety concern, one international company has become more prevalent in North America.
On this episode of One-on-One with Steve Adubato, show host Steve Adubato, PhD., meets with the chief executive officer of SUEZ North America, Eric Gernath, who discussed water safety in the state of New Jersey and what is being done to keep our water clean and our families safe.
SUEZ is a French-based utility company which operates largely in the water treatment and waste management sectors. It is one of the largest companies in the world, serving more than 1.5 million people in New Jersey alone every day.
Water is used constantly in every corner of the world; however, having good quality water is often taken for granted, but maintaining a fine state of water is a daily struggle, said Gernath.
“You need a lot of expertise, a lot of resources, to make sure every day the water that you drink is of an adequate quality, the water that you treat―waste water―is actually suitable for discharge (so) that you’re not polluting the environment,” Gernath explained. “It’s a daily struggle, but what we pride ourselves about is that you don’t think about it.”
Because of the aging infrastructure around the country, water quality is subsequently diminishing in communities in our own backyard, but SUEZ hopes to be the driving force behind many of these upgrades and modernizations of failing infrastructure.
