Where: 1275 Route 35, Middletown; 215 Route 22 East, Unit 7, Green Brook Township; 3246 Dune Drive, Avalon
Details: Duck Donuts got its name from the Outer Banks town of Duck, North Carolina. Russ DiGilio, the owner, and his family vacationed there for years. They loved the quiet, family-oriented town. The family quickly noticed, though, that warm, fresh donuts were nowhere to be found. They eventually opened a shop in Duck before expanding. The famous Duck Donut is a freshly-made vanilla cake donut that you coat with items like cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar, chocolate icing or peanut butter icing. Toppings like shredded coconut, bacon pieces or chopped peanuts are then added before finally selecting a drizzle like marshmallow, salted caramel or hot fudge.
