The Sea Isle City dining scene just got a little bigger. Beachwood at the Dunes is Chef Lucas Manteca’s new coastal cuisine venture. The modern beach-chic bar, restaurant and lounge serves made-from-scratch comfort food in a buzzy and vibrant yet relaxing space. “Growing up, farm to table was the way my family ate,” says Manteca on the eatery’s website.
Manteca, born in Argentina, also owns a number of other NJ restaurants; including The Red Store (Cape May Point), Taco Shop (Cape May Airport) and Quahog’s Seafood Shack (Stone Harbor). “For me, farm to table isn’t a trend. It’s a way of living,” he says. “We take local ingredients and keep them as pure as possible. It’s what I call honest food.”
Beachwood at the Dunes – The Menu
The menu features fresh, simple ingredients that they source locally whenever possible. The food takes inspiration from Argentina, with influences from New England, Spain, and South America. Meat and fish dishes cook over a wood-burning stove, so you feel like you’re tableside at a beach barbecue.
Rustic dishes from around the world are available a la carte in the main dining room. Otherwise, you can order small plates at the bar. But don’t expect one particular style of cooking. “I’m not interested in a theme,” Manteca says. “I just want to make awesome food.”
For example, Beachwood offers New England classics like clam bakes and lobster rolls. In addition, they serve British-style fish and chips. Then, there’s the German schnitzel and Spanish paella. You can even sample wood-fired Indian naan and dip it into inventive spreads.
Beachwood at the Dunes’ interior boasts a refined coastal vibe that flows through the restaurant. A casual but sophisticated bar area features globe lighting and a glass wall that can open accordion style when weather cooperates. An a-la-carte dining room offers cozy booths and counter seats overlooking oyster shucking and a wood-burning stove. In the mellow lounge space, sample a plate of small bites or a glass of wine.
