The Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia has set as one of its goals exposing young children to theater and inspiring in them a love of reading and storytelling. Featuring literature author and illustrator Eric Carle, The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a triple-bill performance that includes an assortment of favorite Eric Carle puppet characters. Enjoy the adventures of the magical transformations of Little Cloud, a chameleon’s trip to the zoo, and the progression of a little caterpillar into a lovely butterfly. Colorful performances of these characters come to life on stage with the Mermaid Theatre’s use of black light, providing a unique and vibrant experience.

New Brunswick, NJ (September 11, 2009)—The State Theatre announces its fall line-up for MILK & COOKIES, a FREE series of performances for children ages three to eight and their families. The program, fully-funded and sponsored by the Provident Bank Foundation and presented by the State Theatre, comprises a total of four performances at 10am and 12pm on two select Saturdays. Featuring live music and stories, the program features a diverse lineup of New Jersey performers. The fall schedule is as follows: Ken Galipeau: Campfire Stories & Songs on Sat, November 7; and Lisa Garwood: A Winter Celebration in Story and Song on Sat, December 5. Because space is limited audiences are encouraged to register as early as possible.

Presented in the cozy confines of the State Theatre’s Heldrich Room, Milk & Cookies is an ideal introduction to the performing arts for young children and their families. The program incorporates audience participation to engage youngsters’ attention, and at the same time introduces the basic elements of good theater etiquette. True to the name of the series, children attending the shows will be treated to complimentary milk and cookies (while supplies last),
