This special reading of four one-act plays, directed by Antony Marsellis, will include: The Treasurer’s Report by Robert Benchley, Run, I’ve Got To Love/Confessions of a Dyslexic Lover by Susan Charlotte, When The Women Come Out To Dance by Elmore Leonard and Marred Bliss by Mark O’Donell (co-author Hairspray, Crybaby) starring John Shea and Rex Reed. Highlighting what writer and creator of the series Susan Charlotte describes as the forgotten art of the short play, these one-acts will explore the different sides of comedy. During the post-performance reception in the SOPAC Loft, audience members will have the opportunity to meet and participate in a question-and-answer session with the actors, writer and director.
About SOPAC
SOPAC — the South Orange Performing Arts Center — opened its doors in November 2006, with the mission of becoming the premier performing arts center in the region. SOPAC offers innovative artistic and cultural experiences for diverse audiences in an intimate, inviting environment. The center places a strong emphasis on family-friendly programming. SOPAC also presents educational performances for students and teachers through the school time performance series, and partners with various community organizations. To further expand its offerings, SOPAC has partnered with the Juilliard School of Music to present Juilliard @ SOPAC, and has teamed up with Seton Hall University’s Arts Council to host both the Classical Concert Series Jazz N’ the Hall. Gilda’s Club Northern New Jersey presents “Ladies of Laughter,” a night of comedy, featuring three star comediennes – Lisa Lampanelli, Cory Kahaney and Sunda Croonquist. The night will be hosted by Freddie Roman, the abbot of New York City’s famed Friars Club, and will benefit Gilda’s Club, a nonprofit cancer-support organization based in Hackensack.
