Best Golf Cities in America. Atlantic City #6

May 6, 2009 in Life in Jersey by BNJ

Atlantic City Golf

Atlantic City Golf

Atlantic City has been ranked among the Top Ten Golf Cities in America by ForbesTraveler.com. The announcement made on March 6, 2009, ranks Atlantic City as number six among nine other top tier destinations.

“Atlantic City’s inclusion in ForbesTraveler.com’s listing of Top Ten Golf Cities in America shows that Atlantic City continues to be known for more than just its excellent gaming establishments,” said Jeffrey Vasser, president of the Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority. “Along with our celebrity chef-owned restaurants, headliner entertainment, unique attractions, and popular shopping opportunities, golf has become an important tourist attraction for Atlantic City.”

“This is a very distinguished list of golf destinations and I am extremely proud to have Atlantic City included in it,” said Brian Hoey, golf marketing manager for the Greater Atlantic City Golf Association.

Other destinations included in ForbesTraveler.com’s listing were Las Vegas, NV; Orlando, FL; Denver, CO; San Antonio, TX; Myrtle Beach and Charleston, SC; San Francisco, CA; Scottsdale/Phoenix, AZ; and Chicago, IL.

ForbesTraveler.com formulated the list by consulting with leading golf editors and writers, along with local experts. Golf cities included in the Top Ten list needed a concentration of courses, both good public and private courses, with a contribution to the history of golf. The Greater Atlantic City area offers more than 10 four-star or better public golf courses and is home to three of the top 100 private courses in the country. History also plays a vital role in Atlantic City as Atlantic City Country Club is the birth place of the term “Birdie” and Seaview Resort and Spa has been the host site for numerous professional tour events with winners that include Sam Snead and Annika Sorenstam.

Greater Atlantic City Golf Association members currently include the highly rated Golf Digest’s Places to Play: Blue Heron Pines West Course – 4 stars; The Links at Brigantine Beach- 4 stars; Harbor Pines Golf Club – 4 stars; Mays Landing Golf and Country Club – 3 stars; Sand Barrens Golf Club – 4 stars; Seaview Resort and Spa – 4 stars; Shore Gate Golf Club – 4 1/2 stars; as well as Twisted Dune Golf Club – 4 stars. Casino and hotel partners include Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, Tropicana Casino & Resort, Trump Plaza Casino and Resort, Sheraton Atlantic City Convention Center Hotel, Courtyard by Marriott Atlantic City, Fairfield Inn by Marriott, Comfort Inn North, Ramada Limited, Quality Hotel Bayside Resort, Clarion Hotel and Convention Center and Holiday Inn Express.

Jersey Shore Videos . Summer

April 9, 2009 in Life in Jersey by BNJ

In our effort to keep you up to date and to help visitors learn more about our state, we present a listing of videos that feature the Jersey shore. When you find a great one yourself, or when you make a great Jersey shore video yourself, let us all know about it! We would love to feature it here.

===========
Ventnor & Atlantic City New Jersey Beach Video

I found this video today of the Jersey Shore on Flickr. I wish I had found this in January to remind me of warmer days. This video is a good reminder of the simple joys of the sand, the waves and the sun at the beach.

This NJ Shore video was made by Flickr member Michael MTS83. It features Ventnor and Atlantic City. Michael also has some beautiful photos from Cape May.

===========
Seaside Heights Boardwalk Video

This Seaside Heights, New Jersey video was made by Flickr member TPAL3 It features Seaside’s boardwalk, arcades, amusement park rides, beach and the elevated Skyride, that’s sort of like a ski lift without snow and … skis.  The video was shot last summer. You should also check out his gallery of NJ Photos and his neat video of High Point State Park at sundown, but that’s another feature.

===========
Twin Lights Lighthouse Video

This Twin Lights Lighthouse Video was made by Flickr user Harriet 1954. It is part of a Flickr feature on the New Jersey Lighthouse Challenge from 2008. The Twin Lights Lighthouse is located in Highlands in Monmouth County in Central Jersey at the northern end of the Jersey Shore near Sandy Hook.

 If you know of some other Jersey Shore videos we should post, leave a comment below.  Get out there, and do some shooting. We’re waiting!

Seaside Heights is located in Ocean County. Atlantic City and Ventnor City are located in Atlantic County. Cape May is located in Cape May County. They are all located in South Jersey at the Jersey shore.
