Guarino Furniture Designs

I enjoy designing and building furniture for corporate and private clients. I also exhibit in galleries and museums.

For me each new design is a small adventure, exploring my imagination and the potential of the material. Like craftsmen of the past, I prefer to perform my work using fine hand tools instead of relying on machines that may technically speed completion, but limit the scope of the design. Machines, while certainly useful at times, can create an artificial distance between the artist and the material. My hands-on approach allows me to let the simplicity of the design reveal itself, creating a piece that imparts serenity and calm, reflecting the tree’s grace and strength. As each design becomes real and tangible, I get a sense of a tree evolving into a new life as a useful piece of art. I’m grateful to be the catalyst for this rebirth.

The Shad Festival highlights the region’s arts, the City of Lambertville, the Delaware River, and of course, the ever popular shad. The festival has evolved over the decades from a local art show into a well attended and award winning event. Shad Fest features some of the area’s finest arts and crafts, incredible food and family entertainment. This two-day extravaganza also serves as a venue for local non-profit organizations to raise necessary operating funds.

The annual poster competition and poster auction are just a couple of our favorite events that make up this unique New Jersey celebration of spring.

To learn more about Shad Fest see the Lambertville Chamber of Commerce website here.

Walker’s Wine and Spirits Friday Wine and Cheese Pairing:

After the success of our last wine and cheese pairing, Walker’s Wine and Spirits will be having another session with Rick Buscavage of Fiddleheads. We’ll be pouring and pairing on Friday, June 12th from 4pm – 8pm. For more information about Rick or Fiddleheads, please visit www.fiddleheadsonline.com.

The Cheese:

  • Chimay Poteaupre – A creamy cheese which is aggressive to the nose. Cow’s milk cheese made by Chimay (known primarily for their world-class Belgian beers).
  • Gorgonzola la Picante – Italian organic mountain gorgonzola from a small producer in the hills of Northern Italy.
  • Brie de Meaux – the King of Bries, or the Brie of Kings!
  • Kerrygold Black Waxed Aged Cheddar – Aged cheddar from Ireland.

The Wine:

  • Georges Duboeuf Fleurie 2007 – “The King of Beaujolais” really shows the quality that can be achieved from the Gamay grape in this area of France. This superb vintage has rich fruit combined with an elegant character and light tannins which add structure.
  • Artesa Carneros Chardonnay 2007 – Fragrant floral, green apple and pear flavors are delicate and spicy. Medium- to full-bodied, sleek and focused, with a long, persistent finish that keeps fruit purity at the center.
  • “We’ve been tasting a lot of Chardonnay lately in our Napa office, and while consumers may grumble about the cost of wine, it’s a rare day that we don’t unbag an excellent bottle at a decent price. Chardonnay fans love to chase the latest player, but senior editor James Laube found real satisfaction with the Artesa.” – The Wine Spectator – 90 Points
  • Marchesi di Barolo Ruvei Barbera D’Alba 2006 – The color is a lively and brilliant dark ruby-red. The odor is fresh and intense with clean scents of wild berries and hints of vanilla. The flavor is warm and robust, pleasant and balanced. This “big body” wine comes from one of the greatest names in the Piedmont region of Italy.
  • Mayne Sansac Bordeaux Rouge 2005 – 50% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc – This is a distinguished Bordeaux with a well balanced structure enhancing a complex bouquet of red fruits. First impression of supple tannins is followed by a long and velvety aftertaste. This 2005 Bordeaux is very sippable on its own or accompanied by all types of meat and cheese.

Bloomsbury Arts & Crafts Festival . September 26 . 27

Bloomsbury Art Festival: September 26, 27, 2009

Bloomsbury Art Festival: September 26, 27, 2009

The Bloomsbury Fine Art & Fine Craft Festival on Saturday September 26 and Sunday September 27, 2009. This two day juried event is open to artists from the region and anywhere in the nation. Work can be almost any media. Last year the participating artists and craftsmen and craftswomen displayed fiber arts, clay pottery, wearable art, sculpture, jewelry, decorative painting, photography, mixed media, collage, wood toys, baskets and blown glass. Interested artists can fill out an application and read about the requirements for entrance here. The deadline for applications is June 1, 2009.

The festival also features a wide variety of entertainment, including a children’s activities area and food from local schools and churches.

The Bloomsbury Fine Art & Fine Craft Festival provides funding for the Bloomsbury Elementary School cultural arts programs, while providing area residents and visitors the opportunity to appreciate the visual and performing arts. The mission of the festival is to promote, cultivate and foster interest and participation in the arts.

In speaking with one of the founders of the show this week I learned that the festival committee has a few positions open this year. If you love the arts, have some time to volunteer and want to support a great local school, you can contact the school here.

Bloomsbury is a charming little town located in Hunterdon County, in Central Jersey near the Pennsylvania-New Jersey border. It is conveniently located near exit 7 on Interstate 78.
