Foodies Brings Classic Diner Favorites to Hackensack

There is no shortage of Diners in New Jersey. (And plenty of them are great.) However, the latest to open in Bergen County – Foodies in Hackensack – does breakfast, lunch, and brunch a little differently. This family-owned spot likes to put a twist on diner classics to create innovative new flavors. The result is a fresh take on old favorites.

The 1,500-square foot diner has a “cozy, modern diner feel,” according to Owner Teddy Sakellaris. In particular, Foodies can seat about 64 people indoors and an extra 36 on the seasonal outdoor patio. The venue also doubles as a great spot for private dinner parties, and is available by request. As for the location, Teddy says “We had a great opportunity to get into an extremely diverse marketplace; in a special up-and-coming location with many great new companies opening up close by.”

A Mouthwatering Menu

Foodies feeds that Jersey diner fix, but also puts a twist on traditional items. For example, they serve a variety of specialty French toast; like the PB&J French toast which, of course, is topped with peanut butter and jelly. Then, for the lunch crowd, the Monte Cristo is a French toast sandwich with ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese. Other crowd-pleasers include waffles, pancakes, and omelets. Teddy’s favorite is the Foodies club wrap, with breaded chicken cutlet, bacon, avocado, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, and chipotle dressing.

However, no diner trip is complete without a fun milkshake. This spot is no exception, with options like the Nut Job Shake which blends Nutella with chocolate ice cream. Likewise, the Curious George Shake blends vanilla ice cream with honey and banana.

About the Owner

Teddy knows a thing or two about running restaurants. In fact, he has friends and family who own many diners and other restaurants throughout the state. For instance, his father owns Rutt’s Hutt in Clifton, where Teddy served as fry cook and counterman. As for Teddy, he also currently owns The Maple Valley Diner in Clifton. (He previously owned The Hawthorne Diner in Hawthorne and The Hearth Charbroil in Clifton.)
