NJ Flea Markets Guide
By John Stringfellow:
My NJ Flea Markets Guide is written from my own experience. For many years I traveled the highways of Western New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania trying to make a living selling paintings, drawings and prints. I was never very successful but I did meet some wonderful characters and I learned a lot about flea markets. Eventually I learned to give people what they wanted and I made better money. When I gave up on fine art and prints and concentrated on selling as many dollar items as I could load up in my van, I doubled my income. I was then able to eat, buy gas and pay my rent. Life as a junk man was pretty good. Sometimes I still miss those days and it’s still hard to pass by a pile of treasures on the curb.
My guide will feature some markets that I know quite well and others that I’ve only heard about. When I have personal experience with a market, I’ll let you know my recommendations.
Columbus Flea Market, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday:
Columbus is a very strange market. You can find just about anything you could want here from art to car parts to tomatoes. The outdoor market can be brutal in the summer because that black pavement just soaks in the sun and heat all day long and throws it right back at you.
I recommend Thursdays [I was always too busy in Lambertville on the weekends]. I recommend eating before or after you get there at one of the local diners in Bordentown. I recommend going with an open mind, you never know what you might find.

Englishtown Auction Flea Market, Saturday and Sunday, All Year:
Englishtown has to be one of the biggest NJ flea markets with over 300 vendors indoors and 40 acres of market space outside. This is not just an antique market like some of the others in our guide. At Englishtown you’ll find fresh locally grown produce, clothes, shoes, electronics, vacuum cleaners, jewelry, collectibles, toys, furs and more. The market has been in business since 1929. As far as I can tell, they do not hold auctions here anymore. The market is located northwest of Freehold in Monmouth County. From Trenton or Philadelphia, take the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95) to Exit 8 toward toward Hightstown Freehold.

Rancocas Flea Market, 2nd Sunday of every month, March-December:
I don’t know Rancocas that well, but I had lots of friends that never miss it.

Lambertville Flea Market, Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday:
This is my favorite flea market of all time. It holds some wonderful memories for me. I learned allot of things here and made very good friends. Lambertville has an amazing array of dealers and customers. There are also more artists that set up here than in any other flea market that I’ve ever known. It is a wonderfully funky place.
I recommend Wednesdays to find some really good deals. On the weekends, I recommend getting there before dawn in the late spring and summer to find some incredible treasures. I recommend a good sunhat. I recommend that you know your stuff if you are buying or selling art here. I love this market!

kids clothes, coats and toys, adult clothes and jackets. Wedding dress and fancy dresses as well as sports memorabilia and collectibles.
Maddie, if your from the south jersey area, one of the better places to sell is columbus flea market… they are open thurs. sat. and sun. thurs. and sun. are the better days to go with saturday being really dead especially durring the winter months…. I highly recommend columbus! other not-so-bad places in the same area are new egypt flea market… its kind of a hit or miss.. i think they are mon.wed.sat.sun… cowtown down in south jersey but make sure you get a good spot and be there early! and last but not least, lambertville(the golden nugget flea market) the poeple there are nice and customers up there have money and arent afraid to spend it… even in these bad times.. as long as you have decent stuff to sell…. the mostly like antiques but will buy other good stuff…
P.

I’m looking to start selling gifts in a balloon along with balloon delivery as well as custome doll houses. Can you tell me the best flea market to go to? I live in rockland county new york but the flea markets are all booked up. I’m willing to travel but not to far.
A’ahh,
You might want to try the market in Dover. That one is closer to you than the others. Also, have you looked into the 25th Street Flea in New York City?
John
Looking for good Wednesday market for selling vintage, antiques and second hand items? Where do you recommend?
Ryan,
I think you should try Lambertville. It might not be that good until spring however.
John
I WOULD LIKE TO SELL ROSE ARRANGEMENTS. FRESH ROSES,
WHAT IS THE BEST MARKET TO DO IT
I NEED TO BE ABLE TO MAKE A LIVING AND PAY MY BILLS
PLEASE ADVISE
Maria,
I think what is most important for your situation is to look at which market is convenient for you to get to and which one has the type of customer that you need to sell to. Once you know that, you might need to visit that market(s) to see if anyone is already selling that product there.
John
i have alot of fine art, antiques, and collectables and am thinking of going to lambertville but dont know if spring, summer or even now is the best time to go there.
David,
You might want to go over there this Saturday, [without the merch] just to check it out before you make a big commitment. It has been so warm this winter, the market is probably good now.
John

Hello,
My name is Sibilla, Im a jewelry designer and i was wondering where can i sell handmade artistic jewelry.
I live in NJ an I would really appreciate if anyone can give me an ideas where i can sell my jewelry on the weekends or maybe art jewelry galleries if theres some?
Thank you!
Sibilla,
I think you should try Lambertville. While you are in the area, you might try some of the galleries and boutiques in New Hope and Peddler’s Village. You might also try Peter’s Valley Craft Center in Sussex County.
John
Hello, I am in Bergen County and looking for the best place to locate some furniture for refinishing. Mainly an ornate dresser and a couple of other great pieces for our home. Are any of the flea markets in the area better for finding old furniture? I am familiar with the Dover area as well…is it worth heading up there for furniture?
Thanks so much!!!
Rena,
I am sorry to say that I don’t know of any markets near you that would have much furniture. I do know that if you came to the Lambertville flea market on a Saturday or Sunday, you could probably find some pieces. You might also want to browse some of the EBay furniture listings in your area. I know that some of the people that used to bid against me at my little country auction in Pennsylvania sold their items on EBay and that they had customers that would contact them and come to their warehouses.
You might also just take a ride one Monday morning to Perkiomenville Auction in Green Lane Pennsylvania. It is a long ride for you, but one that you will never forget. If you can go on a summer Monday holiday, you’re bound to find lots of stuff you like…..[if you get there early enough] There are tons of warehouses around that area full of antiques and old furniture too. More Perki Info here.
John
Thanks so much John for all the great info!!!
Thanks for all the useful info !
You’re welcome Villa!
I sell brand new womens handbags (leather and mid market bags priced from 10-30 dollars) as well as some other unique things that I have not seen sold at the columbus market, but there are quite a few tables selling pretty much the same bags as each other. Not sure if I should give it a shot since my bags are better quality for the price and more unique.
Fan,
Give it a try. What do you have to loose?
John
Where do you live Maddie?
Thank you John so so much ! I really appreciate your help. Thanks again!
You’re Welcome Sibilla!
